Political Correctness

The US list of state sponsors of terrorism is a total sham. I sincerely hope Paul wouldn't use that as a criteria to designate his "terrorist nations," which I agree is a horrible term. Cuba and North Korea are on there solely because our current foreign policy wants to blacklist them. A Cuban terrorist? Give me a break.

Regarding political correctness: just say what you think. If people proceed to feel you're a xenophobe or a racist, then maybe you should look at what you said, and not try to blame the political correctness bogeyman.

I'd like you to take my word when I say that I would never be described as politically correct, but even I can see that the imagery and diction of the Iowa immigration ad did in fact have something of a racist undertone, and that his plan to end student Visas from countries he determines to be "Terrorist Nations" would be ineffective at best.

It's OK to do, but students with visas are not a threat. The ad is pure sensationalist propaganda.

Obviously 9/11 says that student on visas can be a threat. I think the message here is dont compromise the security of Americans and ensure to the best of your ability that people allowed in America are not a threat.

The middle east is a quagmire and nobody from this nation can accurately say who is pure and who is evil so stopping visas, immigration, etc, etc is the only way to esure American safety until we can forge new friendships.

You forget that many terrorist hold many positions in thier society, just because they have the label of Student, Doctor, etc, etc does not automatically make them a candidate for entry.

I dont think that the people who wish us harm are stupid, they will lead productive lives, not have the appearence of being a terrorist, will come here via the easiest path, and boom your dead.

Yes, 1 hijacker of 18 was here on a student visa. 200,000 student visas were issued that year. Clearly student visas are a threat.

Two hijackers were later (months after 9-11) switched from tourist to student visas. The flight school got the notification later.

Ron Paul's speeches on the matter indicate that he believes most of the hijackers were on student visas.

But even if they weren't, I say that taking foreign students and returning them as engineers, computer scientists, and biological researchers is very much akin to selling weapons. They are human resources of strategic value to their governments.

what im getting is that everyone here is fine with the policy proposition, but dont like the wording "terrorist nations." That is the epitomy of PC: don't call a spade a spade. Now, we all agree that our foreign policy incites terrorism, but that in now way excuses Saudi's, Pakistanis, etc. of their support. (I am not labelling all saudis or pakistanis as tangos, so now racism accusations please)

Besides, at this point there is so much bad blood between the US and Islamic World over 9/11, Iraq, etc., that even if we changed all of the policies the jihad would not immediately end since many islamists would still want revenge(RP and Michael Scheuer both say it would phase out over time but not right away). SOOOOO: in the meantime, we will need tough immigration policies to defend ourselves

What i was trying to say is that the ad said nothing new: RP has always advocated these policies. And if you read the writings of the world's top bin Laden expert, Scheuer, agrees. But if someone is willing to throw a hissy fit over hte doctor's wording, it makes me wonder about my fellow revolutionaries.
