Police ordered to stop "Freeway to Freedom" Campaign

TPTB and all selected candidates are probably monitoring this board and dailypaul.com as well. I'm betting that they're pretty desperate, particularly after yesterday's poll!

What is this TPTB thing and which poll??? Anyone?

Thanks, jj111, now what poll?!

Ok, so the sign ordinances can be a little tricky, right? Here's a way around it.

"Burma Shave" type signs held up by ACTUAL PEOPLE standing beside the roadway!

This requires 7 volunteers at a time.

Step #1. Make seven signs:

a) Insanity is.....

b) Doing the same thing....

c) Over and over.....

d) And expecting....

e) Different results...

f) Vote different....

g) Ron Paul 2008

STEP #2 Find a busy road and get out there!

Tips: Make sure each person stands at least a few hundred yards from the previous sign. The sequential message is what really makes this approach effective.

For a little history on the Burma Shave signs you can read about it on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma_shave.

Now if you REALLY want to add a little icing on the cake:

Have an 8th person standing a little further after the previous signs with one last sign that reads: " Questions? Stop ahead."

Then have someone in a parking lot just up the road with a small table set up with Ron Paul Flyers and other literature and even bumper stickers.

It WILL work. It WILL get attention (more so than just the standard campaign sign stuck in the ground). It WON'T work if nobody does it.

Ron Paul's campaign doesn't have $50 million like Obama and Hillary. We need to think outside the box and get more bang for our buck.

Take the initiative. Just do it.

Very nice!

Our Pasadena group went to the Los Feliz, Magnolia and Olive overpasses. I think it took about two hours for the cops to show up, telling us to move. Apparently, as long as you keep moving, they can't do anything. It was actually just about time for me to go home, so I didn't bother protesting their claim that we were "causing traffic jams". I could clearly see that the traffic jam went on way past where we were standing. Of course, as I drove south, and saw the group at the Los Feliz overpass, I did notice that as soon as I drove past, the traffic jam disappeared.

Q: will drivers be mad at the people holding the signs for causing the traffic jam, or will they blame other drivers for slowing down?

PS This may actually be something I might consider doing every now and then, before work, during a lunch break, or after work. Just pick a nearby freeway overpass. Make (or buy) a sign, and go stand there. If the cops come to tell you to move, just move and go home, knowing that a couple more thousand people saw Ron Paul's name.

Oh, mostly, we got supportive honks (do people just honk for the heck of it, or do they generally only honk if they like what they see?), though there were a few middle fingers. At first I thought "idiots" but it pretty much is the most effective way to signal displeasure with an overpass sign.

I keep telling people if you can't show a sign have a back up with a human sign... you know one letter per shirt and just stand there with your human sign.. it's huge! lots bigger than a regular sign and it can't be missed.. if the cops show up just jumble the people around and poof there's no sign! :)

It's a great idea but it takes a lot of volunteers. Our group is not big enough to do that yet.....

A co-worker of mine just called and told me he saw someone carrying a sign on the I-5 in Burbank this afternoon.

well you could just wear regular shirts and hold them out while wearing them as people drive by :)

LEss traffic...but totally legal is rallying on busy street corners...you get traffic both ways and often you can talk to and pass out litature to people waiting for the green light..

I've read our ordinaces for california...pretty darn strict..they can almost prevent anything calling it a safety hazard or somethin

Following up on this post with a little different twist. You speak of a "parking lot just up the road". What about rest stops. There are many rest stops up and down I-5 here on the west coast. On our trips we frequently stop at these.
Many people do. This might be a good place to set up a table with Ron Paul literature. Most people get out of their cars to stretch their legs and might be inclined to walk over to the table just because it is there and someplace to walk to.
Also, it is very boring driving down the road and they might be more inclined to read the material once they have it because it is something to do.

I believe it is illegal to stand on the side of interstates. This idea seems better suited to busy highways/streets/roads/etc.

Perhaps the entry lanes to rest stops...

They can take me to jail if they want. I really dont give a damn what the cops say (I still use judgment about any confrontation). We should just use common sense and respect, and imo putting up signs/banners on interstates does not violate either.

Getting arrested for waving a Ron Paul sign = instant media darling.

Just make sure you get your own video recording of the arrest.
