Please anyone who is interested in helping Ron Paul's movement please, please, please, run Republican.

The laws are so biased against 3rd parties. We can't do anything to fix this unless we can get into office to change the laws. Then we can all go back to our 3rd parties once we get them fair access.

In my own area we had a great Ron Paul supporter running for Senate and because he ran as Libertarian only garnered 1% of the vote. Had he run Republican I know he would have gotten more. So many people are still brainwashed. Many more people would have taken a look at him if he had been registered Republican.

To run 3rd party in the climate we are in is to ensure a loss. We have to be able to get to congress to affect any change.

I agree... GOP is perfect for us because it is falling a part. We will pick up the pieces with the liberty message. With time the Democrats will show how bad their policies are. It will then be the GOP's turn (like during the Clinton administration) and we should be ready in the party when that happens!

We have to try to give that party back to the people. And if we fail, we really, really need to YouTube the hell out of our efforts and their reactions so the people can see its true colors.

A nice little project for the next two years.

This is an opportunity to get in there and win the soul of the GOP. But please, only run races in which you have a chance to win.

Libertarians are an embarrassment

In my district, we had an incumbent Democrat, a Republican that ran on the "I'm not him" platform, and a Libertarian that refused to take donations and get in a public debate.

7,319 people (3% of the vote) voted for the Libertarian that refused to advertise.
That kind of attitude isn't going to get them anywhere.

I voted straight Libertarian when I could and not a single one of them made a difference.

Bob Barr (while a sorry candidate) only got .6% of the vote of 10,000 votes in my state.

The highest response were for County Recorder and School Superintendent for 21% and 30% of the vote.

Not necessarily. Running against someone, even if you lose, causes them pain. It costs them time and money that they could otherwise be spending elsewhere. Run a cheap campaign, and do it to educate voters rather than to win.

Do unto others what you would have them do unto you. I wouldn't want the GOP taking over the LP (which it sadly has to an exent), so I don't want to take over the GOP. Just be yourself and be happy, OK?

Hmmm of course, I suppose, us former mccain supporters are not welcome ... right?

I agree with OP 100%. I wanted to entertain the idea of breaking up the two-party monopoly, but when Ron Paul gives an explicit directive to vote 3rd party, and we still end up with such poor results, you know it simply isn't possible. It should be quite clear that our old aim is our new aim: take over the GOP. We need to be committed to this, all of us, or we fail.

But, are poor results necessarily equivalent to defeat? Remember, Edison failed more than 10,000 times before he successfully invented the lightbulb. The LP is still young (relative to the establishment). Stick with your principles, and you'll have the last laugh. Leave the fascists and commie pinkos to their precious 2 party duopoly. I will do what's right. :) To you "compromisers"-don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out! memorize the Jefferson quote in my sig, too. :)

Just to look at all the people that bailed on these forums shows that the third party hogwash is dead. I really thought this year there would have been a large showing. .8% bahaaa! Our only chance to make any changes in the near future is the GOP.

I would have to restate that in order for the Paul Revolution to ever be different from just another third party movement, that run 'educational' campaigns perpetually into limbo, it will have to learn to run properly fuinded candidates in races where they are positioned to win. Lawson lost because he didn't have the funds/fundraising ability from day one, and he was running against an entrenched incumbent. Conley lost because he also lacked the appropriate funds and ran Democrat against an incumbent in a Republican leaning state.

These efforts are the structural equivalent of half-court shots or hail Mary passes, at a time where we need lay-ups or slam dunks. To reduce the number of wheel-spinning efforts in the future, pick 10 races in 2010 where there is an open seat, select a Paulite candidate who can raise at least $400k (House) or $2 million (Senate), and run him/her as a Republican, for that nomination in a Republican leaning state/area. For a Democratic district, same formula, just run a Ron Paul Democrat. Then we'll pick up some wins.

YAYYYYYy way to go Liberty People! It's time to work within the GOP..but we have to be NICE ..and be team players..not protesters! They won't listen to us if we go in as revolutionaries....I am so happy to see this thread! Lets go take the GOP back to sanity! Tones

Bah, humbug. The people you see are not necessarily the ones running the show. You also forget that 3rd parties have an extremely large task before them. We've established that elections, as they currently are, are bullshit. The point all along was to make independent thought and liberty popular again-not to just win "power" arbitrarily. "Authority" without solid freedom philosophy is pointless.

When America is ready to return to its roots, 3rd parties will prevail. So, take your arrogance and shove it.

"As our enemies have found we can reason like men, so now let us show them we can fight like men also." -Thomas Jefferson.

Fight the establishment! Don't join it!

The situation is as good for us as it's ever going to get. The Libertarian Party is now overrun with neocons. Good for them, they can have it.

The Republican party is a big void, ready to be filled by liberty-minded conservatives.
