PEOPLE! NV caucus is NOT ABOUT VOTES

It would be awesome if we ended up with more delegates than Romney from this state!

It would mean we WON Nevada!!!

The process is made up of two parts. Election of delegates and a NON-INFLUENTIAL straw poll.

The media is reporting the straw poll. Lot of Romney supporters, but very few of them running as delegates.

Lots of Ron Paul supporters running for delegates AND WINNING.

See the posts around here of people reporting their precinct results. We are winning the delegates and that is what matters.

You can't run as a delegate when you are bused in from a neighboring state.

"Lots of Ron Paul supporters running for delegates AND WINNING."

Can someone explain or link to the process of electing the delegates? Thanks

The precinct delegates caucus together next month at the county caucuses. Those delegate caucus together at the state in March.

We need delegates today so they can caucus together in Feb to get Ron Paul delegates elected to the state so they can caucus together to get Ron Paul delegates going to the National Convention.

There is no such thing as a "pledged" delegate in Nevada.

As a precinct delegate, next month I go to the county caucus and vote for another delegate to go to the state. I can vote for any delegate (I just happen to know I'll vote for one who supports Ron Paul).

:D

Delegates will only be announced in april i just heard on cnn. Is that correct?

its all about the delegates. Every state is different. this was probably County caucus, then these delegates all go to state caucus to elect final delegates.

I realize that the delegate issue is the biggest deal, but see the media can't report anything on that *NOW*, yk? They need news *now*.

So, they're playing up the popular vote. And if the popular vote - skewed as it may be because of out-of-staters coming in and voting - is what is being reported, then we have to make out of it what we can. This popular vote is the potential for name recognition, so let's get behind the popular vote results to some degree.

To clarify...

This is from the Nevada GOP website under the Questions and Answers section:

3. Why is the election of delegates and alternates at the caucus so important?

The reason the election of delegates and alternates is important is because the Republican nominee for President is chosen by the delegates at the Republican National Convention. In Nevada, the process to become a national delegate begins with getting elected as a delegate at the precinct caucuses.

All Delegates and alternate delegates elected at the precinct caucus will meet in March at their county convention. The county convention will then elect delegates and alternates to represent them at the State Convention in April. And it’s at the State Convention where the delegates and alternates get elected to the Republican National Convention in September.

Since delegates generally vote for other delegates who support the same candidate as they do, it’s advantageous for a candidate to elect as many people as possible as delegates at the precinct caucuses. The more delegates a candidate has after the precinct caucuses in January, the greater the chance they will have the most delegates from Nevada to the National Convention in September.

We're trying to jockey for a little media attention.

Need to overcome the "he's not electable" syndrome.

We need 2nd to accomplish this.

Would it actually be possible for Romney to bus in a crap load of Mormons from Utah to vote in the straw poll?

No. Only registered voters could participate in this poll. The poll is "embedded" into the caucus process.

We first vote for delegates, then we do the straw poll.

Does anyone know how many delegates we have won so far?

We're never going to get an exact count, not until at least the State Convention. Plus delegates in Nevada are unbound, meaning they can change their minds at any time.

We did VERY well with the delegates.

Delegates will only be announced in april i just heard on cnn. Is that correct?

Yes--BUT NOT IN THE WAY PEOPLE ARE THINKING, they are selected on Apr 17th or thereabouts at the state convention. All these thousands of county delegates will elect the state delegates in about a month at each county convention. Then at the state convention the state delegates will elect those 34 national convention delegates. BUT THEY ARE ALL 100% UNPLEDGED. So, the delegates will be announced, inasmuch as we will know their names--but there will be NOTHING like "20 delegates for Romney, 10 for paul" etc.
