People have been telling me to run for Congress ...

Yeh, state requirements can be very low. I ran for state rep when i was 23. you only had to be 18 to run.

So today I said that I would... IF some things happened first.

It would be for the 13th district seat from North Carolina. This has sorta been building up over the past several months, ever since the campaign I ran last year for school board here. A number of people in particular (and my wife ain't one of them :p ) have especially been encouraging me to consider doing this lately.

My plan has been to go to grad school and get my masters in history. This *would* put a crimp in those plans for the time being. And I wrote a few days ago that I'd much rather see other people run, wherever they are at, and give them my support.

The biggest reason why I posted this is still to do something to encourage other people to run for office. That, and to get the idea out there that there is a better way to be involved in the political process, than through "negative advertising" and vile actions.

If these things happened and I ran, it would absolutely be a good, clean, creative campaign.

Just curious as to what some fellow Ron Paul supporters think of this, especially how I'm going about it :)

Take some time off from school and go run your country...all of us must do this if possible...

A state rep race could be won with about $25,000. That is easier to obtain than $300,000.

Bloody hell they make it hard enough to find the requirements. I have looked close to half an hour and still can't find them.

U have supporters. Right here.

I didn't ever realize you were running for office. Anyone who is running for office, especially Congress, with Ideals similar to Pauls I am instantly a supporter.

Anyone serious and is running please PM me to let me know how and when to donate. I am from Ga, but any Congressman or Senator for another state I wouold be willing to donate for.

Lets get Paul some company in Congress shall we?

I'm planning on running for State Rep in North Carolina against Nelson Dollar next election cycle.

He helped in efforts to prevent the Libertarian party of our state from being on the ballot, and given as how over 50% of our State Seats are won without challenge each year by the incumbents, it certainly angers me.

I'm only 20, however I'll be self-financing most of my campaign so I should have at least $5,000.

The North Carolina legislature is one of the most corrupt in the country. Members are/have been openly bribed to switch parties, Jim Black, now a convicted felon was re-elected even when the public was aware of his transgressions.

For all the great libertarian minded individuals in North Carolina, we have a great lack of talented individuals to lead us.

Dollar is not a long-term incumbent and I think running a smart grass roots campaign might just work.

Am probably going to be getting a new camcorder tomorrow: one that's a bit more professional in quality. I'm thinking of making a video announcing this possible run for Congress and posting it on YouTube, and seeing what happens :)

I think when RP gets office in 08 he could set a new standard for congress and the senate. If RP gets office, it means most of America will love him and what he stands for, thus anybody that is RP approved will get their name recognition. I know this will get a little out of hand as every single politician will try to get RP approved but the true and honest will get their chance. It's best to get RP to know you if you can meet him and get on his good side, let him know your ambitions and to please look out for your name one day because you'll be running.

That's my take on it.

If you're running for Congress and have no experience, think of it as a 6-10 year plan. Ideally, you should serve on a lesser legislature before running for Congress. It both gives you experience campaigning and a record legislating. Like it or not, voters are attracted to candidates that have experience. So if you've never been involved in politics before, get involved now, win a local or regional seat, and think about running for US House in 2012, 2014, or 2016.

Go for it now!

Run for Congress.

Good advice

Good advice for building credibility. State legislature seats are also a lot easier and less expensive to gain. In some states, you can get out and campaign in person to a good chunk of the voters, and direct mail will cost a lot less than in a Congressional district.

You might be able to skip that step, but only if you are already well known in your community, like a small business owner or a prominent attorney, or have superior political skills.

Yes listen to this wise old man :D

very very wise, wait... no not wise ,,,, arrogant is the word I was looking for.

Nathan why not write a book about all the wisdom and knowledge you have on politics, you bullshit enough about it but never really accomplish anything...... no polls needed to prove that bud.
