The Pentagon says it is planning a military parade requested by U.S. President Donald Trump later this year, but says the celebrations will not include tanks because they could damage Washington’s roads.

Trump asked the military last month to explore the possibility of staging a military parade in the nation’s capital on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

A Pentagon memo released Friday said the parade will end with a “heavy air component,” meaning many airplanes flying overhead.

“Include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks — consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure,” the memo said.

The memo was written by the office of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to give initial guidance to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which will stage the parade.

The Pentagon memo did not include a cost estimate for the parade. The White House budget director recently told Congress the cost to taxpayers could be between $10 million and $30 million.

The guidance said the parade should focus on the “contributions of U.S. military veterans throughout history,” starting from the American Revolutionary War, and should include veterans wearing period uniforms. It said the airplanes used at the end of the parade should also include “older aircraft, as available.”

Trump should be surrounded in the reviewing area at the Capitol by veterans and Medal of Honor recipients, the memo said.

The Pentagon said the parade, which will travel from the White House to the U.S. Capitol, should place an “emphasis on the price of freedom.”

The Veterans Day holiday this year coincides with the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I.

The inspiration to hold a military parade came from the president’s trip to France last year when he and first lady Melania Trump watched Bastille Day events in Paris July 14, as the guests of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte.

Military parades in the United States are generally rare. In 1991, U.S. troops paraded through Washington to celebrate the ousting of Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi forces from Kuwait in the Gulf War.

Tracked vehicles cause too much damage . If you ever notice commie country parades all the vehicles are wheeled . That way they can be used for show and tell .

It was going to be an independence day parade.

Forgive me, but I still have a hard time telling if u are serious with your posts or just trying to be funny. Remember that time u told me your wife didnt speak a lick of English. Anyway, communist countries do parade their tanks in their tracks. They don't wheel it or put em in wheels. They parade it with some kind of track and deal with the road damage later.

If this is one of your jokey posts then just ignore this post.

I think he is half joking, tank treads are harder on the roads and they may not want that in Trump's parade whether the Russians do it or not.

Trump is just wanting to do a military parade so that people can protest the mliltary parade and to make people want to protest the endless wars because Trump is just 4d chess and he is going to get everyone to oppose the military parade by opposing Trump and symbolically oppose the endless wars.

We ran tracked vehicles on pavement in Germany as an example , decades ago for exercises ( not parades ). Those surfaces though were much superior to american pavements . Of course those treads also had newer , not worn track pads . A track pad is the hard rubber matl between the metal treads that operates like a tire . The metal only bites in on the earth . Changing two treads of track pads or more on a nice 20 degree day with a stiff breeze with nothing but a breaker bar and a socket , not much fun .

This should be fun...

Normally I'm opposed to unnecessary spending/adding to debt by big government but in this case costs may outweigh the morale benefits such a display of military might could provide by boosting national psyche. Amid non-stop media headlines on controversial things like White House staff exits/removal of clearance for top advisors, divisions on gun control/path to DACA, reports of Mueller interest in Stormy Daniel-David Dennison payment scandal, it would be nice for a change to shift attention to something that invokes warm, soothing freedom vibes among all.

I want Trump to turn this parade into an announcement we're withdrawing from ME in 72 hours.
