"Paul Fest" Gains More Celebrities! Country Stars Burns and Poe Make Huge Announcement!

In this interview with event spokesman Josh Tolley!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5SiZHHqOIQ

"Burns & Poe is country-soaked, adrenaline-driven, fun-lovin’, on the rocks entertainment that makes for a don’t-blink, hold-tight, roller-coaster-of-a-ride, live show. The best part…it’s 100% pure Burns & Poe.

Described as the Sonny & Cher of Country, Burns & Poe perform side-by-side, bantering back and forth with playful jibs and jabs, and sharing vocal talents that are equally identifiable, splitting their performances right down the middle."

"Burns is a founding member of the Grammy-nominated, gold recording trio Trick Pony, who won both an American Music Award and an Academy of Country Music Award. Burns has also penned songs recorded by Joe Diffie, Hootie & The Blowfish, Sammy Kershaw, Anita Cochran and Trick Pony (who scored three Top 20 and two Top 10 singles on the country charts).

Poe, formerly a Dreamworks recording artist, has been an integral part of national touring bands, singing backup and playing bass to lock in the rhythm section behind the likes of international acts Dierks Bentley and Hank Williams, Jr.

In 2007, the two made official introductions at an audition for the Trick Pony leading lady; Poe landed the gig. In what seemed to be just moments later, the trio disbanded…leaving the door wide open for the creation of Burns & Poe

Burns & Poeis a “Tequila Sunrise.” Sweet, syrupy grenadine with the tang of a fresh-picked orange is the lovely and bubbly Michelle Poe. Her silky smooth vocals lend a woman’s touch to the songs she and Burns write and perform together.

Keith adds the burn to the mix with a hot but “goes down easy” raspy voice and charisma reminiscent of The Eagles, Don Henley with a twist of Mellencamp for an added punch.

Shaken or stirred, the pairing of seasoned artists is a combustible combination straight up! Their magical songwriting chemistry mixed with their authentic musical talents make for an all-natural, highly intoxicating concoction.

Burns & Poe signed with Blue Steel Records in 2009 and have been on the road performing at shows from coast to coast. Since Keith Burns and Michelle Poe came together in 2006, they’ve secured a variety of sponsors including Taylor Guitars, Peavey Guitars, Dan Post Boots, Silpada Designs and Crow’s Nest Trading Company."

Too bad Paul Fest is being managed into a Paul Mess!

I can't wait to announce more of the lineup! - I'll wait till they've done interviews though!!!! :)

Burns and Poe has 4475 facebook likes

by comparison, the last show I saw was at Space Gallery in Portland, ME. There were around 200 there. Xiu Xiu, Dirty Beaches, Father Murphy. Facebook Likes for these bands

Xiu Xiu - 26K
Dirty Beaches - 9K
Father Murphy 1400

I would call Xiu Xiu and Dirty Beaches somewhat popular indie bands. I wouldn't call them celebrities. And they have 5x or 2x as many fans as Burns and Poe.

Burns and Poe could be great. But they aren't celebrities, and the fact that they're at this event is not a huge announcement.

There's no reason to call the musical acts celebrities. The only objective achieved is to make the festival look silly, or Ron Paul supporters look silly.

Again.

"Paul Fest" Gains More Celebrities! (Well, no, not celebrities) Country Stars (Again, No, Not Stars) Make Huge (No, not Huge) Announcement!

That's silly. Not Celebrities. Not Stars. Not Huge.

Anyways..it's all good parocks - I'd love to have you join the team, I know the booking and production teams would both benefit by having your help in making this event a success.

I keep up with most types of music as well as country. I've never heared of them. Trick Pony had a couple good songs. They were mostly up beat kind of songs. (check out pour me). I would suspect that you're not going to get huge stars unless they're being paid well.

Heck my company had Chicago (maybe 1-2 original members) in for a party a couple years ago. They got $100k or so for an hour.

I'd rather have up and come'er bands for cheap then expensive ones. They will probably have to get 1 headliner though to advertise around.

Star Burns & Poe!!! Excellent!!

They're not notable enough to have a wikipedia article. I don't know if I'd call them celebrities.

Cool.

I know announcements are under wraps, but is anybody approaching or hearing from the Dixie Chicks? That'd make a splash.

Maybe they should try to get John Mayer. At least I know who he is.

I don't think Dixie Chicks are on the list of people the booking team is reaching out too...I don't think a name like that would help us win over any of the more mainstream republicans we want to show up ;p

Well, what I think might be good would be a thread here where these things are discussed beforehand.

I haven't the slightest idea how much these acts are getting paid. And I'm not dumping on this Burns and Poe band. We could openly discuss these things, here, decide whether an act is worth the money, and whether or not we should be calling an act a Celebrity, Stars, or Huge.

I'd like to see

1) an open discussion of who to get here on rpf.

2) people who are not celebrities should not be billed as celebrities, stars, or huge. Just because you were in a band that won an award, doesn't mean that you're a celebrity, a star, or huge. I'm also not a fan of the word celebrity.

I know a decent number of people in rock bands. A decent number of rock bands that are bigger than Trick Pony. I'm not sure that I would go as far as to call those people celebrities. I think that msm TV has to cover your personal life in order to be called a celebrity. There are very few celebrities. Actors and actresses are more likely to be celebrities than rock musicians these days.

Maybe they should try to get John Mayer. At least I know who he is.

Over the course of the last 6-9 months, every so often new names of new rock stars who have said something positive about Ron Paul have popped up. John Mayer I recall from 2008 as saying something pro Ron Paul.

Kelly Clarkson, Michelle Branch, Joe Perry, John Popper, Staind(?), Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have all said something pro Ron Paul. I'm guessing that they might work for a discount, perhaps?

Do people think that Frankie Munoz (Malcolm in the Middle) is a celebrity? He is in a band called Kingsfoil. My guess is that they'd be a value. If you think that Frankie Munoz is a celebrity (he most certainly is more famous than Burns and Poe), getting Kingsfoil would get you a celebrity for cheap. And the music they play won't turn people off.

Will this festival have camping spots, or will we need to get a hotel nearby.

I'd love to see the headliner from the 2008 Paul convention one more time. Linda Evans (hope I got her name right) is a huge country star with a couple of big hits recently. Agree with other posters - one big star is needed to headline the event.

Managed to answer my own question:

On the festival's website — paulfestival.org — lodging information is noted as "coming soon," but the fairgrounds has about 300 camping spaces available for recreational vehicles or tents, and Robinet said organizers have talked to local hotels about holding blocks of rooms.

Would like to be in a spot with a lot more than 300 camping spots tho...

We've had a lot of people say nice things about Ron Paul in the past. Kelly Clarkson and Michelle Branch I think are sufficiently big. Others too. We spiked Kelly Clarkson up the Amazon charts about 6 months ago after she tweeted or facebooked something nice about Ron Paul. Kelly Clarkson is the ultimate nice safe inoffensive choice. Leaving aside the fact that she likes Ron Paul, it's a nice choice. I personally would prefer something I liked for my own enjoyment, but Kelly Clarkson is such a good pick.
