Paul and Confederate flag

I suspect that he would not take a stand on it. It is not the Federal Governments responsibility. It is a State issue.

I don't think that he has ever mentioned the significance of the Confederate Flag (either as a symbol of Southern patriotism or as a racist symbol).

Ron Paul has been an honorary member of the the Sons of the Confederacy Veterans for 12 years, bless his heart. He speaks up about the real causes of the War Between the States and Dishonest Abe, whenever he gets an opportunity.
I guess when you learn about the alternative story as to the causes and behaviour of the North towards the South, it changes ones view of the flag from being a symbol of racism to being a symbol of the freedom fighter. I was another hapless vicitm of the propaganda machine. The flag used to send a shiver up my spine cos i had no idea of the other side to the story. Victors get to spin!

Unfortunately the flag, as a symbol of racism, has fallen into almost inextricable disrepute.
I revere it because of the courage of people like General Lee and Stonewall Jackson. I have one in my lounge (not outside because of its unfortunate learned associations.)

And no white supremacist am I. I am a Buddhist who wishes well to all living beings!

No, the ones who attribute racism to the Stars and Bars are Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and John McCain. Dr Paul has got a brain. He uses it!

The fact remains, that the vast majority of people who "show off" the confederate flag are racists. I live in a southern town, and personal experience can vouch for that.

It's a the battle flag under which my ancestors fought and died to preserve the Founder's version of the Republic. Your personal experience is meaningless to me as I will chose right over meaningless emotional drivel every time.

Mods, please delete this thread as this is a divisive issue due to the poor state of education in modern America.

And the vast majority of people who use the word racist don't know that they're using a term coined by Trotsky.

I forgive your ignorance, schools aren't what they used to be.

Merry Christmas in a non-offensive way.

Awesome post!

'Racist' was coined by Trotsky and is used to stifle legitimate political debate. Ron and his supporters are going to be called 'racist' and a lot worse because he's fixin' to upset the apple cart. This campaign isn't going to be for the feint of heart.

I have one over my bed because honestly it is heritage (Grayson's Artillery Company A). I do not choose to flaunt it because people do get the idea that it is a racist symbol. Honestly I am the least racist person. I wish everyone could just get along and worry about more important things. We all came from the same place, over time we just adapted in different ways...

One way to detox the issue would be to start using one of the three Confederate national flags instead of the battle flag.
But the national flags are hard to get; frankly, I've never seen them for sale.
Anybody have a source?

Slight nitpick - it should actually be called the War for (or against) Southern Independence. That is the most accurate and unbiased term.

If they want to ban flags used by racist groups they should include this one:
