There is a certain mind-set, which I have been forced to interact with to a scale not expressible in words, that I call Always Right No Matter What. They could be watching a baby being barbecued alive, and as long as it's being done by Our Team, it's definitely the right thing that should absolutely be happening and that baby is obviously a terrorist or something, who knows, who cares, because ALWAYS RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT. I can't imagine what it's like to go through life with this kind of absolutely unshakable lack of self-awareness... like, the thought has never once crossed your mind, in all these years, that maybe just maybe you're not the good guys? Literally no amount of 10 athletic men dog-piling on one helpless arrest victim and football-kicking their heads while locked up in a choke-hold will ever cause you to take a step back and ask where you might have made a wrong choice somewhere along the way? "He probably deserves it. They wouldn't have sent us if he wasn't literally Satan." Criminal assault on a healthy adult man: rationalized. Criminal assault on a frail, old man: rationalized. Criminal assault on a woman: rationalized. Criminal assault on a teen: rationalized. Criminal assault on a hapless pet: rationalized. Criminal assault on a small child: rationalized. Is burning babies alive the only thing that can wake such mind-controlled meatheads? Or is even barbecuing babies alive ALWAYS RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT?
