Our cue to act decisively will be when they start regulating the internet

I am starting to get nervous, really nervous. So much has happened in the last week. We are losing our country. Last year, when we swarmed D.C. regarding the amnesty bill, we were able to stop them. Last week, when we swarmed D.C. regarding the bail-out bill, they told us to go to hell.

Congressman Brad Sherman said this on the floor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaG9d_4zij8&feature=related

We have to get our ducks in a row. The first thing we have to do is find an alternative form of communication because they WILL figure out a way to prevent us from communicating with each other.

1. Get a HAM radio! And if you can't afford one, get to know your local HAM radio club ASAP!

2. Get to know as many people in your neighborhood as you possibly can, bearing in mind that you will scare them off if you don't keep this to just "economic survival" at first. You have to build a local support system.

3. Go to your local gun dealerships and get to know gun dealers. Find out about gun clubs, etc.

4. Talk to as many police and military personnel as you possibly can and start planting seeds. Help them understand that their loyalty is to our beloved Constitution, NOT a tyrannical government.

We HAVE to get to work people! It starts with YOU! If you don't do something now, you will live to regret it.

"....let it not be said that we did nothing." ~Ron Paul

I'm worried as well. The internet is so important, and I just know the elites hate it.

Lessig also revealed that he had learned, during a dinner with former government Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke, that there is already in existence a cyber equivalent of the Patriot Act, an “i-Patriot Act” if you will, and that the Justice Department is waiting for a cyber terrorism event in order to implement its provisions.
That quote is from here: http://www.boingboing.net/2008/08/05/lawrence-lessig-on-t.html

A few people are on the same track as you in this thread: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=161941

They don't even need to regulate the internet, as long as they control comcast, verizon, etc, they can just turn it off.

There WILL be an underground if this internet is taken over. The internet is just a bunch of networks hooked together.

They may try to prosecute underground internet users, tho..

I'm going to guess that they may attempt this using the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act.

Its references to "ideological force" are as vague as the definitions in the Patriot Act.

Philip Giraldi wrote about this recently:

"As should be clear from the vagueness of the definitions, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act could easily be abused to define any group that is pressuring the political system as "terrorist," ranging from polygamists, to second amendment rights supporters, anti-abortion protesters, anti-tax agitators, immigration activists, and peace demonstrators. In reality, of course, it will be primarily directed against Muslims and Muslim organizations. Given that, there is the question of who will select which groups will be investigated by the roving commissions. There is no evidence to suggest that there will be any transparent or objective screening process. Through their proven access both to the media and to Congress, the agenda will undoubtedly be shaped by the usual players including David Horowitz, Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, and Frank Gaffney who see a terrorist hiding under every rock, particularly if the rock is concealing a Muslim. They and their associates will undoubtedly find plenty of terrorists and radical groups to investigate. Many of the suspects will inevitably be "anti-American" professors at various universities and also groups of Palestinians organized against the Israeli occupation, but it will be easily to use the commission formula to sweep them all in for examination."

As you can imagine from this, it represents a tool to remove free speech from this country.

This initiative could very well include authors, bloggers or politicians that are vocal in their criticism of government; if this is put to the Senate to pass soon, this will be a major alarm bell sounding out the intentions of the establishment.

Here's the roll-call vote for this monstrosity. No real surprise as to how Dr Paul voted on it. ;)

When TSHTF cell phones won't work, tvs won't work, cable won't work, electricity will be cut, probably city water shut down, they'll hit all of it.

generators and ham radios, better yet solar cell powered ham radio

wished I'd thought of this earlier

Yep, Internet II is already in the works. I heard it is to be implemented no later than 2012.

I've been wondering... if the government fails wouldn't it just be the government? not the market? the market will correct itself fairly quickly.

People that depend on the government will feel it the worse but if you don't get anything from the government then I think you'll just be inconvenienced for a time. I've been thinking that the day after the government falls we will be better off than we are now. The market is king and its not going to fail. The government controlled financial system will fall but not the exchanges of goods and services.

I've been kicking that around in my head... what do y'all think?

The market and the gov't are not exclusive of each other. The gov't made sure of that on Oct. 1st. We are no longer a capitalist society, we have transitioned into a socialist society. And we are heading toward fascism and eventual totalitarianism. When the gov't decided to ignore our millions of calls and emails regarding this bail-out, that was our first clue.

As I said before, last year when we did this with the amnesty bill, they listened. They have since gotten very bold. If Obama gets into office (I'm sure he will), it will seal the deal. Obama, Pelosi and Reed will end America as we know it. All you have to do is read the Fairness Doctrine that Pelosi is so heavily pushing, and the Obama's Poverty Tax Act to see the direction they intend to take us.

Got to admit, from the perspective of someone that has closely studied the European Union for the last few years, this resembles something more like one of their bills than anything else I've ever seen pass as US legislation.

The problems we see unfolding in the UK can be directly tied to EU directives written into UK law by compliant Ministers of Parliament and successive governments, integrating Great Britain into the European Union bit by bit.

This process of integration started back with Edward Heath, and has continued unchecked through every single Prime Minister since that time, strengthened by ratifying successive EU treaties, each obviously designed to slowly undermine national sovereignty.

Repeated calls to offer referenda to the public have been blocked; for 13 years, no accounting has been shown of where public money goes when it is handed over to the EU (at a cost of around 200 billion pounds of taxpayers money a year). We are contemplating selling the HMS Victory and closing our oldest observatories while the Hadron Collider goes online and the EU launches its first space freighter - so I'm fairly sure I know where our money has gone.

To date, New Labour has written well over 3000 laws onto the UK statute books, all that can be traced back to EU 'directives', which are sold to the public as 'requests' put to the governments of nations trading inside the EU framework in order to meet compliancy regulations. These have slowly expanded over the years to include education, border control, and other areas of society that have nothing whatsoever to do with trade.

The Global Poverty Tax is like all of the EU treaties rolled into one; nice fast, and above all QUIET transfer of sovereignty.

The Fairness Doctrine is RIDICULOUS, and directly harms First Amendment rights by undermining free speech. It reeks of the same ultra-left-wing thinking that currently dominates Britain's Cabinet, which is forcing multiculturalism and diversity on the UK public. While the UK is a multi-cultural nation (due to invasions and migrations over its long history), those cultures have integrated over centuries, while New Labour seeks to push them together in the space of 5-10 years. Likewise, diversity doesnt fall into line with the traditional British views of equality, tolerance and fairness; it seems almost designed to segregate social groups and then promote tension by treating them all differently as minorities. In a similar way, while controlled and legal immigration is a good thing for the UK, mass nearly-uncontrolled immigration is not; it stirs up racial tensions that didn't exist 10 years ago.

There are more of us than them.

Which is a great founding principle of democracy in general; it is becoming more and more obvious that voters in general need to be educated in civic responsibility, voter awareness in order to exercise their duty as a citizen in upholding democracy; part of that is openly challenging and questioning members of government when it makes bad decisions, as well as insisting they be held accountable for their mistakes and crimes. No-one should be above the rule of law.

That Labor Party of yours sounds as hypocritical as The Patriot Act.

From what I understand Google and Yahoo already cooperate with countries like China in censoring the internet. The steps are getting smaller and smaller and closer and closer to reality.

That Labor Party of yours sounds as hypocritical as The Patriot Act.

That's why they marketed themselves as "New Labour". The old Labour Party was the party for the working class - miners, labourers, mechanics, the working men and women of Britain; it was deeply tied up with the unions in Britain, and Blair used that to his advantage to get in, then passed legislation that crippled union influence.

Many old-school Labour members balked at that, and the Labour Party has been losing members ever since at varying rates over the last 10 years; as of right now it has the lowest membership it has had for 40 years. More than likely, the next general election in the UK will be decisively won by the Conservative Party, but like here in the US, I'm not sure whether they are going to be any better, or start breaking campaign promises as soon as they enter office.

The third party in the UK are the Liberal Democrats, and their leader Nick Clegg isn't much better - he's almost certainly in the EU's pocket; a fact he recently proved by getting almost his entire party to abstain on a vote to allow the British public a referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon. The Conservative Party came out overwhelmingly in support of it, which is my only reason for hope. There are enough old-school Conservatives left to be passionate about Britain's place in the world rather than as Britain's place in the EU.

Britain needs serious constitutional reform to protect its sovereignty, but I'm sure that would also require established Ministers of Parliament to submit to more accountability, oversight and transparency in government, and as we've seen, they are seldom capable of doing that.

More than likely, the situation in Britain is going to deteriorate more and more to the point where the Army and/or the Police eventually steps in and arrests the Cabinet. In fact, it's their duty; its why they swear an oath to Queen and Country rather than Government - and they still take that oath VERY seriously indeed.

I think you may not get what the "market" is. If I have chickens and you have apples and we trade a chicken for some apples then that is the market.

I'm not talking about the stock market and if that is what people are worried about collapsing well... not sure what to say about that.
