Folks this is conjecture only.
Headquratres is always warning us about McCain-Feingold and the FEC. Can go to jail for NOT following the rules. My guess is that National used this type of misinformation as an implied threat to the Spooner folks. I can't beleive that these fine young, dedicated Spooner folks gave up months of their time and had the Spoorner Project up and running.. to simply beg off the entire project. Doesn't make rational sense to me UNLESS some type of threat was used.
Again this is speculation. I did contact Spooner today urging them to restart their program and invited them to join an "alternative grassroots campaign planning group" JUST in case National screws up at Ames. Haven't heard one word back from Spooner.

For those of you not aware, I'm Chuck Young. I was "the man at the switch" of Op. Spooner, as someone picturesquely put it. So I guess that makes me responsible for the recent train wreck...
I just got off the phone with Heather Olsen. She's as nice a person as can be imagined. She's truly grateful for the efforts of everyone in the grassroots community. And she's genuinely sorry for any confusion and hurt feelings there might be out there.
National has really good data, and it's prioritized by region, party, etc. I think there's every reason to believe that tons of good can be done viz the Call Iowa program.
You should all be getting call lists soon; I'm going to subscribe everyone from spooner into the call iowa program in bulk. Note that some of you may thus get some redundant communications. Apologies, apologies... work in progress? Or have I worn that one out?
Point is that this is truly a New Thing. We're confused, National is confused, and hovering over it all are onerous FEC regs designed *precisely* to exacerbate all this confusion, fear, etc.
The answer to all this is positive action, as always. I know, it's inefficient, time's been wasted, etc. But here we are. Gotta move forward, y'all. So everyone, let's get behind this thing, be patient, get lists, make calls, and win!
