Are there any good, free online fantasy RPG's out there? I'm bored and need some time to kill.

Every last one is a Skinner Box aimed at your wallet.

If you want a game to pass some time with, go to abandonia.com and download something there.

I love League of Legends. It's got a steep learning curve, but it's one of the most fun games I've ever played. Even though it's free, I've spent hundreds of dollars in their store. Great game.

I used to play City of Heroes but NC Soft shut it down. I'd be interested in any other game comparable to it.

I find that the electronic rocket-propelled grenades don't really go as far.

Come play Wartune with me. Server #14 Serenity Lake, and join *Lurkers*

I love RPG as a genre, but lately they're all kind of the same; mostly dominated by fantasy themes and settings, with hard-to-relate-to characters and plots, not to mention wizards and orcs and s**t.

If there are any programmers among you all, here are three killer ideas for an RPG game that, to my knowledge, NOBODY has done yet.

1. An Old West-themed one, sort of like Red Dead Redemption but with more emphasis on roleplaying, trade, jobs, etc. Classes/careers could include doctors, card sharks, gunslingers, blacksmiths, bounty hunters, and saloon girls, among others.

2. A decent gangster RPG, maybe set during prohibition, where you can establish your own gangs/families, expand your empire through trafficking illegal alcohol, put hits on rival gangsters, etc. Classes could include getaway drivers, explosives experts, enforcers, smugglers, and card sharks, among others.

3. An RPG which takes place in a huge maximum-security prison and really focuses on the prison hierarchy, gaining respect, leveling up your strength by visiting the gym, trading contraband, not getting beaten up, etc. I think this might be the most novel and unique idea of them all.

I liked City of Heroes / City of Villains because it had characters of all genres. You could design your character as anything from a basic Superhero or Supervillain or anything including Ninjas, Pirates, Barbarian Warriors, Steampunk People, Futuristic Sci-Fi, Robots, Cyborgs, Mutants, Zombies.... it was ridiculous.

I miss the game and lost all my characters when they shutdown. Greedy bastards should just release as open source instead of sitting on it.

About 20 years ago I programmed a MUD with a rock music theme. Yes, there was a Temple of Syrinx.

I'm pretty sure LotRO and Rift are F2P these days, if you mean high fantasy.

DCUO, STO, SWtOR are all F2P too, I believe; though those aren't technically high fantasy.

Give Lord of the Rings Online a try. It's F2P. Great graphics and story line. There are even ways, though tedious, to go through the game for free. Though, like other F2P, they try to suck you in with special offers.
If you like to solo I'd go with a Warden. Not sure if that class is still F2P but I've had it sitting in cobwebs for ages now. The Hunter class, ranged archery, is also another good one.
There is a great story line and if you like the Lord of the Rings novels then there are plenty good eggs.

Edit: Seems Age of Conan is now free to play. Been years since I got in on open. Excellent graphics and a more mature environment than Lord of the Rings.

I know nothing about these things , but my youngest son plays Oiligarchy and it is funny.

I'm pretty addicted to playing The Battle for Wesnoth. It reminds me a little of old school Shining Force. The kicker is that its totally free to download and play.

Download Wesnoth 1.10.6

Guild Wars 2, have to pay for the client, but F2P after that.... Was a hardcore WoW guy for a while, this game is very casual friendly. Plus, they push new content every 2 weeks.

What's a good multi-player game guys? Doesn't necessarily have to be a RPG, I like playing war strategy games with friends.
