*ongoing* Romney FB likes crash as Ron Paul's steadily rises

Its pretty crazy because daily gains like that were rarely seen even during the GOP primaries.

It does seem like the online conservative base is finding somebody to rally behind and they're liking what he has to say more and more. Now for the offline base to get on board.

Whew, nice to see that he's headed back in the right direction. Luckily that wasn't a very big loss.

And Rand is really gaining, he's had between 4,000 and 5,000 new likes a day since January 24th.

If he were able to continue at this rate he'd reach 1,000,000 likes in May.

Yeah, those are pretty huge gains for someone this far out from 2016. Rubio, Christie, Jindal, Bush, and Ryan aren't even close to the overall numbers or daily gains.

Not that this necessarily means anything but it's fun to compare... from what I can find Romney didn't reach 1 million likes until July 2011. That's around two months after the GOP debates started. And that's after the name recognition gained from running in 2008 and starting this cycle as the "front runner".

Rand is on pace to hit 1 million likes in May 2013, a full two years before the first GOP debate.

Got the numbers up before state of the union address tomorrow.

Can't wait to see who fares better with social media.

That's funny, I was just checking the numbers to compare before tomorrow and came to look for this thread.

I'm guessing Rubio will get a bump, but Rand should too. Rand's pace is currently gaining at 5x that of Rubio's so hopefully that will cancel out what Rubio gets from the greater exposure.

That is unless Rubio's response is overshadowed by Rand's and Rand picks up even more support. :toady:

I think it'd be good to check how Hillary Clinton's Facebook page looks as well. Sure, it's not a fair comparison since she's been more visible before Rand Paul and even more so as Secretary of State, but she is still loved by many and it wouldn't hurt to see how a potential Democratic nominee for 2016 fairs on Facebook.

Rand Paul's facebook likes right before he rebuts Rubio and Obama

I figure most of the popularity will come in the next couple days when the news analysts are talking about it.

Marco Rubio's numbers from last night

346,243

And after Rand spoke.

and that folks, is the immediate difference between national exposure between several mainstream channels and Rand being on CNN/Tea Party online.

Yeah, that didn't really go the way I had hoped. Rand had no real bump because nobody saw his speech. Rubio was gaining around 100 a minute during his speech.

However, even with Rubio's huge exposure and large bump in likes he's still only slightly ahead of Rand for the day. Both are right over 4,000.

Rand does that every day.

It is important to note the amount of shares and comments that both receive, though. Granted, a share only does so much, but the amount still matters. Rubio's most recent as of this post has over a thousand shares, while Paul's only has 280. Sure, most of that is probably just people seeing something by a politician they like and sharing it. The same can be said for Paul, but for Rubio, it's much greater. Still an indication of who people quickly turn to, even if they're not considering alternatives or just blindly following the politician they like.

Rubio is temporarily getting more shares because he had national exposure. Rand did not receive national exposure.

Here are the amount of shares on each of their 5 most recent posts:

Rubio

2,018 | 79 | 940 | 225 | 92

Total - 3,345

Rand

1,503 | 166 | 209 | 4,154 | 1,165

Total - 7,197

One thing is for sure, Rand is getting a lot of attention today, hopefully that attention translates into airtime for the gop voter base.

He's on an interview with Erin Burnett tonight. Topic: "whether or not the GOP can unite"

Update: First time in this thread Ron Paul has a net negative. Could it be that he lost some followers in the aftermath of the .com controversy?

Rand Paul up 10k+
Rubio up 14k+

Not bad considering Rubio's speech was viewed by millions of people on national television and Rand's speech wasn't. It shows Rand's staying power and influence through his actions and not one day on television.

Rubio gained far less than I thought he would. That has to be disappointing for his team. I'm ecstatic that he fumbled the football though. Imagine Rand's numbers had he gotten primetime coverage on all the media outlets.

I don't even know who watches CNN. How many viewers do they get? whats their demo like?

CNN is where people go when they get tired of MSNBC or FOx News "partisan bias". Erin Burnett and Piers Morgan are in the old Larry King time slot (and lead-in), which used to be the best performer of all the prime time news shows. But not so much anymore. The CNN presonalities are annoying in general, so it's the last stop before people turn off the TV.

Would it be ummm.... small of us to suggest a mass unliking? Or should we just let nature take it's course?

WELL most of us didn't like him on facebook in the first place, so what's the point of that? Who's going to follow our lead?

Yeah, Rubio had his best two days ever with that exposure and he still only pretty much did what Rand averages every day.

It will be interesting to see where he goes from here.

I'm not sure what it's from but something must have happened.

He had a small negative dip during the misspelled Facebook posts. Then a bigger drop from "the tweet". Then with the .com stuff he leveled off to breaking even.

But for some reason yesterday he lost another 441. I can't think of anything specific that would've caused that.

And just for fun, Romney hadn't posted since the election and was losing a steady 2500 a day.

Then he posted on Jan 29th and that caused an immediate drop of 12,828. Apparently a bunch of people forgot they still liked his page.

A week after the SOTU and you can still really see the difference:

Rand - 620,629 +27,734

Rubio - 398,057 +48,045

If the current trend continued, Rubio would catch up to Rand in 12 weeks when both of them have around 950,000.

Rubio has had 8 straight days of huge gains.

Rand didn't see any bump, but he's still gaining at a nice and consistent pace.

FileItem-280333-Rand_Chart220.png

And unfortunately Ron is up and down, but overall break even for February so far.

Hopefully once his radio segments start and he reaches new people his numbers will grow.
