*ongoing* Romney FB likes crash as Ron Paul's steadily rises

Rand sure seems to be on a very fast rise to the top. Hopefully he doesn't peak too soon. It's all very exciting

Also congressmen don't tend to do well in presidential races. I cant remember the last one to get the nomination who was a congressman?
I think the last person to get a major party nomination who had never won a statewide election was Wendell Wilkie in 1940.
As for a sitting member of congress, not for a long time.
William Jennings Bryan was a former congressman when he ran in 1896, and I think that was the highest office he had ever held.
Edit: I just looked it up and James Garfield was the only person to ever go directly from the House to the presidency. I don't know about nominees who lost.

Or he can just Romney his way to the nomination. Romney was holding 30-60+% almost the entire primary. The only time he dropped was in Iowa...

Rand up about 15k in the last 3 days and will hit 800k probably by tomorrow.

This is perfect because just as Superstorm Rand is starting to lose some energy, hes going to speak at CPAC and make headlines with a possible straw poll win which will give him another week or so of momentum. A CPAC win will just completely solidify his position as THE LEADER of the GOP.

He's closing in on 500k mark now.

Hopefully we get to 1 million for when he announces,

In retrospect this comment is pretty funny.

HA! Rand is at a new level now. Time will tell if it lasts or if the general electorate reverts to its usual flippant self.

In the last couple days Rand beat out Rubio 7 to 1 in faceook likes. Simply amazing. The CPAC straw poll victory is going to keep the momentum going strong.

Well, unless the establishment succeeds in tearing him down, Rand looks to be the future of the GOP.

I honestly hope he is playing the dark knight (from our perspective) in order to do whatever is "necessary" to forge libertarianism into the GOP, and that he's not among the group who thinks his own father is crazy. We don't know Rand; we don't know how much he respects his father, only that he's a much smoother politician than his father is.

Just checked Rand's out of curiosity - 838,042 (+5,588)

But that was on April 1, not March 30th.
I'm curious what Rubio's is (its a fun race to watch) but the computer is hating facebook today.

Rand's likes per day has dropped dramatically over the last week or so. Several <1000 days, it's almost at the Rubio daily level. Not sure what was the cause.

It'd be impossible to maintain the same amount every day, particularly when people are pretty much over the filibuster by now. Now it's probably just word of mouth.

I don't expect him to maintain the filibuster pace, but he was averaging 3k+ likes a day for a while before the filibuster.

Before the filibuster I had Rand reaching 1 million sometime in the summer (assuming he maintained the pace he had for over a month)

Rand averaged 788 likes over the last 5 days. If that becomes the new norm that would push back reaching 1 million to a little more than 200 days from now or almost 7 months (November)

If Rand is to reach 1 million by July the average likes per day over the next 3 months would need to be about 1.8k likes a day.

So hopefully this is just a short term dip.

In the last month Rand got 168k+ to Rubio's 20k+

Thats a more than 8 to 1 like ratio on facebook. Very impressive for the 'non-mainstream, non-establishment guy'.

What would be more impressive is if Rand surpasses Ron's 1.1M on facebook. We know he has earned the respect of many outside of Ron's sphere of influence but for all we know, Rand's 800k came mostly from Ron's support base.

I hate to say it, but I think Rand's immigraton plan has taken some of the wind out of his sails, at least with conservatives. Maybe it will help during a general election campaign.

Nope its fine. Facebook likes is a nice metric....but its all about politics in the end. Rand just reached out to Hispanics while doing it in a more conservative way than Rubio. Facebook be damned...he won this round...and it will pay dividends later.
