One important thing I realized while caucusing last night...

Another important lesson to learn from yesterday. Don't trust people when they say they're going to go to the caucus. If you convinced 2-3 friends to go to the caucus, DRIVE THEM THERE!!! Do anything & everything to make sure that they actually go. It could literally mean the difference in Ron Paul winning a caucus.

40 is old?

In my travels there were more 40, 50 and 60 year olds out campaigning and voting for Ron Paul. Let's just say Ron Paul brings the youth out in all of us!!

I was just stating the vast majority of the people at the caucus were 40+ and in contrast to the youth vote which is considered to be 18-29 that is older... I was only talking semantics.

This caucus experience was profound to me. When I voted for Ron Paul in 08 I lived in Tennessee which is a primary state. You walk in, vote, and then leave. You don't see many of the other voters and there's no interaction between people. With the caucus environment you see every single person with about an hour of interaction with voters. This has opened my eyes to who is actually participating in these GOP events.

I do not see it in my 40s age group with those that use the internet and the same goes for older folks. It is those that rely totally on Foxnews, Neocon talk radio and the MSM (in that order) to get their news. The older they get the more they get their news from those sources.

Without a 4th news channel that can complete with Foxnews Socialist and Neocon propaganda the Conservative and Libertarian movement is doomed to failure.

I'll be 39 soon, and most GOPers see me as some kind of refreshing college kid. Yes the GOP is old. But 40 is actually quite young within the party. That's precisely why they'll destroy themselves if they turn us away.

yep i see the same. at my caucus there were approx 30 people in my precinct. only 4 people under 50....

but Ron Paul did tie for first!....in my precinct

It seemed like 90% of the people at the Caucus I attended, which was quite large, were people all 40+. My wife (24) and I (27) brought our two kids and we were so in the minority that a lot of the old people kept coming up to us saying how proud they were that we were involved basically implying the young people don't care...

Yeah...everytime I go vote I get comment after comment like: "Oh look another young person!". It's very annoying as I'm not a very social person. Kind of feeling just yelling before I get in the booth "YOU'RE OLD, I'M NOT, STFU AND STOP TALKING TO ME!".


Edit: BTW, that's not just the GOP but the general election here in Alabama...not sure if it's the same everywhere else.

I may be wrong, but I cannot remember reading a thread saying Any one was a "kid" or a "youngen." I would not use this term.

More than likely, people are referring to people over 40 in derogatory terms, and it should stop.

Sadly, youre the one not grasping things. Ever hear the saying, cant teach an old dog new tricks? These older people are set in their ways and are a broken lost cause. Our only real hope is to start over fresh with the youth, and bring them up the RIGHT way and replace the older folks that dont get it, with a new generation of people that have a clue.

This election Im afraid is pretty much a done deal, in the lost cause category. Hopefully enough younger people will be able to take over, and in 15-20 years, we will get our country back. We just need to educate and keep spreading the message of Liberty.

But, but.... in 15 or 20 years you will be one of those dumb ass indoctrinated old people. Who are all the other 50 percent of young people voting for? Or those just the dumb young people? Because someone might not agree with you on who to vote for is not a valid call for derision. Give respect, get respect. And vice versa.

Makes the point of the million votes you get almost meaningless except to the media, and the ill-informed.

These COUNTY delegates then go to their COUNTY GOP Convention, and thats where you then compete to become a STATE Delegate to your GOP State Convention. I look at it as though i was climbing a ladder. In Washington State, i became a State Delegate, but i had to become a COUNTY Delegate 1st. If i can do this, you can too. You have to committ yourself, and plan accordingly. This is why we as Ron Paul supporters in 2008 had nearly 40% of the State delegates, but it wasn't enough to take over the convention. We tried, but boy, was it close.

Did you go to the national convention? Please tell more of the story.

We are in agreement, so don't be upset with me here! haha. All I am saying is that the younger voters are judged by those older than them as well. It happens to both age groups. I won't comment on the sexism, but the way I am reading it is some of the younger members are confusing Republican Heirarchy with every person over 40. This is offensive. I have been following Dr. Paul since 2007. and I am sure there many 40+ members who have been following him longer than I have.

I can assure you, I have many young friends, and if I met you, I would treat you with respect. But, in return, some of the younger members should do likewise to us "oldies" Lol

Any problems younger RP supporters have with older Republicans probably stems from the data coming out of these primaries. Ron Paul gets practically half of all primary voters and caucas-goers under 30. From there exists an inverse proportion of support versus age group until finally you get to the 60 and up crowd, where he's under 10% generally. So we're constantly "losing" primaries and we have the least support from the older voters. I understand the frustration and the ageism seems almost appropriate. Almost.
