One, Big Beautiful Bill (The Mega-Bill)

For realz? You really think the shit they taught you in school was true? Man has been rewriting history since there's been Man and history. The specific difference today is that trusted sources of the past are no longer trusted.
My great great grandma taught me about American history.

She lived it.

She was around for 103 years and learned it from her great great grandparents.

They lived through it and wrote journals and sent each other letters that you couldnt change using computer code.

Rep. Keith Self
Many Senators thought they were voting for a bill that would end the Green New Scam.Turns out, a last-minute paragraph inserted by lobbyists and agreed to by leadership does the exact opposite. What else is lurking in this bill? And why is the House being pressured to vote on it with less than 24 hours to review?
Well then Keith, I guess we can count on you to vote against it in reconciliation.

Current status in the House (holdouts and near-holdouts)
- Rep. Chip Roy (Texas): Supported the House version in May, but has expressed strong reservations about the Senate's revisions, saying, “the odds are a hell of a lot lower” that he’ll support it now.

- Rep. Ralph Norman (South Carolina): Called the Senate’s changes “unconscionable” and stated he would vote against the bill both in committee and on the floor.

- Rep. Andy Ogles (Tennessee): Dismissed the Senate version as a “dud”.

- Rep. Andy Biggs (Arizona): Criticized the bill for containing “some amazingly bad stuff,” suggesting it’s unlikely to pass the House in its current form.

- Rep. Thomas Massie (Kentucky): Voted against the original House version and is expected to oppose the Senate version as well, citing concerns over the projected $3.3 trillion addition to the federal deficit.

- Rep. Warren Davidson (Ohio): Voted against the original House version and are expected to oppose the Senate version as well, citing concerns over the projected $3.3 trillion addition to the federal deficit.

- Rep. Andy Harris (Maryland): Voted “present” on the House version, signaling hesitation without outright opposition.

Representatives David Schweikert (Arizona): Did not vote on the House version, signalling the possibility of the same, or of outright opposition, with the Senate version.

Andrew Garbarino (New York): Did not vote on the House version, signalling the possibility of the same, or of outright opposition, with the Senate version.

Did Rand vote for it?

No. The nays on the GOP side were Paul, Collins, Tillis. Collins and Tillis voted against it with a primary objection of Medicaid cuts. Paul's was the deficit. Murkowski was against it until they bribed her. The Senate parliamentarian held that up for a few days, but they eventually got to her somehow. Vance was needed to break the 50-50 tie.

My political assessment is that it will pass the House, and then the 2026 races will heat up, and Trump is already a lame duck. By next year, everything will be about the Democrats winning in all polls. They will sweep both houses easily, possibly gaining a veto-proof majority.

The only lasting effect of the bill will be the deficit increase and more money for billionaires and military contractors for a couple of years.

The GOP shot itself in the foot again, even worse than in 2010. Since most of them are only there to make money, they don't care anyway.

Robert Welch founded the John Birch Society in 1958 based on the idea that collapse of the entire Western world was imminent due to Communist influences along with debt and monetary collapse due to "social services" spending.
In 1958 interest payments/tax revenue=9% in 2024 it was 23%

In 1958 deficit/tax revenue = 3%, in 2024 it was 37%

In 1958 trade deficit/tax revenue = -4%, in 2024 it was 20%

On top of that the total amount of printed money went from 1 trillion to 6.5 trillion since 2009. Which means our current tax revenue is much higher than it normally would be.

Basically back in 1958 we were fiscally sound and bankruptcy was only a theoretical future possibility. Now we're actually bankrupt.

Just because someone can't tell you the exact timeline doesn't mean they don't see where this is going. What about you? Can you see the heading of a ship, but not the current?

Also I think the "doom and gloom" stuff from last century was more of a vague prediction of future collapse, not an actual assessment of the current financial situation.

It's like comparing when the Titanic was still at port and some people were worried that it might not actually be unsinkable. Compared to now where we've hit the iceberg, the boat is filling with water, and there's not enough lifeboats.

Fair enough.

Give me an ETA.

A best guess is sufficient, there should be enough data for that.

Don't get me wrong, I agree, we're broke, no doubt about it. I just don't think that the reckoning will come from that direction.

Well, no. You didn't cite an example. You made a statement. Citing your works would be linking to where he made this praise. I just searched his X timeline and couldn't find it. Perhaps you can point me in right direction.

Obviously, Massie supports any moves to repeal gun control. He has talked about it many times, but hour long interviews or speeches are hard to search for keywords.

For the big, beautiful bill, he was supporting and co-sponsored language by Rep Clyde, which ended up being included in the original OBBB. And in reality, for anything that Massie actually wants to get passed, he can not be the point person. He is persona non-grata with Speaker Johnson.

Clyde has just today tried to re-insert it...

If you look at the overall picture of trade then our economy is doing amazing.

The other major economys in the world were trying to destroy the United States economy and the USA has shrugged off these attacks.

Canada threatened to impose a digital tax on the USA and Trump threatened to put tariffs on and Canada dropped the tax almost instantly.

Thats just one instance of many wins that are happening the US even found out what bank Mexican fentanyl gangs were using in Mexico and wiped it out with sanctions.

We're doing amazing the same way someone who's exhausted 80% of their credit limit is doing amazing.

And that someone doesn't even have a real job

No, of course I'm not.

Give me your best estimate of when the dollar and the economy, as a whole, goes full Weimar.

A month, a year, ten years?

How accurate was I predicting just when Trump would be crowned dictator?

I feel certain that it'll be within our remaining lifetime. That's all I got. You're asking me for the ETA of a ship and I've never set foot on the main deck, much less the engine room.
