There are those who would have you believe that Mitt Romney is overwhelming choice of Oklahoma Republicans. 72% of Oklahoma Republicans voted for “not Romney” on March 6th, also known as Super Tuesday. That is a significant number of voters who reject the former Governor of Massachusetts. As other candidates have fallen away, only one man stands against the tide: Ron Paul.

Of the 43 Delegates to the GOP National Convention, 25 will be chosen at May 12th’s GOP State Convention, to be held at the Embassy Suites in Norman. These Delegates are referred to as “at-large”, meaning they do not represent a Congressional District but the state as a whole. The State Executive Committee has gone through more than 150 potential candidates and chosen a final 25 for Delegate and 25 for Alternate, after an extensive review of their biographies and an interview (either in person or on the phone). Here is the result:

More than 60% of the “official slate” supports Mitt Romney.

this is the slate that will be delivered to the convention for a vote.

This was received from some people from the Santorum campaign via email:

The Santorum Oklahoma leadership is dedicated to restoring the American future. Rick Santorum recently endorsed the nomination of Mitt Romney for our next president. Our common family values and fiscal concerns are of top priority in the race ahead.
It is crucial that the Republican base of Oklahoma makes a clear committment to uniting for victory in the weeks and months ahead.

The Oklahoma State Convention is this Saturday, May 12th. Our Executive Committee is charged with the task of endorsing 50 representatives for national delegate/alternate. We are very pleased that an open and thoughtful process has completed and an excellent slate has been a.nnounced. We ask all our friends to support the slate.

A Libertarian faction is attempting to take over the national delegation and even remove some district results. Their design is to replace the conservative, family-values platform with Libertarian efforts to legalize prostitution, and recreational drug use. They would reject the American committment to our strategic allies around the world, leaving a void for pirates and terrorists to move in. Our economic restoration relies upon a fine balance of freedom and security. Both liberalism and libertarianism threaten a robust national economy.

We ask all state delegates to be in attendance this Saturday, in Norman, OK for a very important state GOP convention.

The Libertarian faction has already taken over at least 7 states this spring. Lets not let Oklahoma fall into their hands through apathy or confusion.

The national primary season is wrapping up. We gave it our all and overacheived greatly. We had some spirited debates and probably spent too much time focusing on our candidates' individual distinction, and not enough time on the Democrats who need to be sent home. While we all have had some disappointments, we are all working together to build a great united team of conservative leaders.

Rick Santorum's national campaign manager, Michael Biundo, will be on hand at the convention this weekend. Mitt Romney was fortunate to accept Mike's assistance and quickly promoted him to a national position on the Romney team. The Romney team has been actively seeking the input of Santorum and Gingrich supporters.

A very unique opportunity is presenting itself to all the values voters of the Republican base. Mitt Romney made a special effort to travel to Pittsburgh, to tap into Rick Santorum's passion and wisdom for national recovery. Not just economic recovery, but a cultural and philoshophical recommittment to the patriotic values that make our nation the "shining city" that Ronald Reagan dedicated his life to building.

How do you like that? And, let me say, both sides are ready for a showdown tomorrow.

Perhaps colluding with the Santorum team to shut Paul out is what they meant by the "surprise".

Paul against Romney + Santorum + Newt + OK State GOP.

the 'Libertarian' faction big L suggests party affinity which precious few of us have, but they are pretending we are 'other'.

So Santorum's campaign manager will be there, only he ISN'T acting as Santa's campaign manager but as a Romney staffer. Clearly the Santa delegates will be used to taking direction from him and likely look at him favorably. Any chance they will know if they don't like Romney they should ignore him?

well, some form of collusion was expected, but the manager the delegates have been turning to would be a surprise. They are trying to 'deliver' the delegates. Any way we can put up flyers appealing to the consciences of Santa delegates, quoting Santa saying Romney is the worst Republican to put up against Obama, and showing some of Ron's polls?

Do people think it would help to have those? Or not?

I think it would definitely help! I also think it would help to address the 'libertarian faction' alienation attempt also.

Wow! According to them - we've taken over at least 7 states! That doesn't sound like some kind of fringe group now, does it? :P

If I'm a Santorum supporter and I get that, I'm thinking... "Seven states? You mean there is really a CHANCE to stop Romney.....?....."

the "not Romney" phrase is catchy.

I agree, appealing to the consciences of the Santorum supporters via a simple flyer is a good tactic.

I also wonder, is there a way to counter the Santorum email with a Paul email that plays at the same game focusing on 'big gov't types attempting a takeover'?

How To Talk About Ron Paul (who has taken over SEVEN STATES) Without Saying RON PAUL.

LOL

9 of 15 OK GOP CD delegates are 110% vetted Ron Paul supporters. Hardcore.

Both sides ARE ready for a fight big time. They do have their slate ready and so do we. It's going to be a game of inches, as it always is.

BE THERE OK DELEGATES! Our country's future depends on it!

YES! The more that santorum's own words are used with his supporters, the more effective our arguments will be. Don't forget the big theme of santorum's campaign: "we need a candidate that presents a clear contrast to obomba" - use santorum's own statement to present the argument that romney and obomba are one and the same. santorum may have been on the wrong side of every single issue, but that is the one thing that he did manage to get right.

I know many want to fight within the two party criminal system but their hatred of freedom and love for control is a big reason why we should just squat on the Indy party and grow the movement from there. We won't be hated from within as these posts above suggests. We would control the Indy party, hence no fighting required.

The price of controlling the Indy party (whichever one you wanted to use) is instant irrelevance and ballot access issues plus no chance for growth after this election season. No platform to work from since no one identifies with the Indy parties. I get the appeal people have to running on the libertarian ticket but it would mean even less exposure in the msmwhere the bulk of americans still get their news.
