ok...who are we going to vote for?

5% gets federal funding for the Libertarian Party next Presidential election cycle and a higher percentage triggers some laws that make it easier for the LP to get on the ballot. For those reasons, I am voting Gary Johnson. Well, that and Write-Ins don't count in my state, so I'd rather vote GJ as opposed to throwing my vote away.

As I think more and more about this, I wonder, is helping the LP really a good thing?

Shouldn't we be trying to get the LP folks to come over and help us in a venue where something good can actually come of it, inside the GOP? And wouldn't increasing the stature of the LP just make it harder for us to do that and even suck away some of our own troops into the LP in 2016, where they won't be of any use?

So who DO you vote for, then? My position is known and nearly universally detested here...whatevs. Who do you propose to vote for in 2012 if not Johnson?

Nobody is an attractive option. If I voted for someone on my ballot, it would be Johnson. I'm just not crazy about the idea.

A vote for Johnson is a fine choice. It sends a clear message, especially if Johnson gets enough votes in your state such that, had most of his votes gone to Romney, Romney would have won that state.

It sends a clear message

I don't really buy that.

Johnson breaking 2% wouldn't be nearly as much of a message as the one we already sent this spring. The way I see it, the part of this election season that really mattered is over, and what people do in November isn't worth spilling much ink over.

And, like I said a couple posts ago, if Johnson really could make a big difference in November, big enough to entice libertarians to choose the LP as a place for them to work in over the GOP, then that could do more harm than good.
