ok...who are we going to vote for?

I will most likely vote Johnson, Though this is because I want to see the libertarian party start to do a little better. I think Johnson would be a good guy to have in the white house though he is not Ron Paul and we all have are disagreements.

I wish we all would vote the same so there could be a record of how many people are in the liberty movement I think it would encourage others to think outside the 2 party system..

Great idea....everyone should vote for Johnson then...write-ins for Ron Paul don't get counted so there would be no record of how many people are in the liberty movement then.

Hmm. Today is the first day of early voting here. After the RNC, I decided to vote Gary Johnson. I checked in here to see if anyone presented a compelling reason against casting a vote for him and to see if there was major consensus for another candidate. Seeing none, I'll probably be voting Johnson later today.

The topic of a write-in for Ron Paul has come up IRL. I think there will be more than a few folks around me who take that route. I'm basing my vote on Dr Paul's suggestion from 2008. That said, I didn't take that suggestion then. I wrote in Ron Paul. Eh, herding cats. I didn't like Bob Barr, and I'm not religious so the Constitution Party doesn't appeal to me. Johnson isn't my dream candidate, but he's an improvement over Barr. I'll vote for him.

I should know this, but do write-ins get counted in Iowa?

Sort of. They won't announce write-ins by candidate, or if they do, it will be several months down the road. I still haven't seen write-in results for the election in 2008. They may have been tallied and reported by now, but they're not really publicized. Someone has to count those by hand, and by the time that happens, it's old news.

I'm still looking for 2008 general elections numbers from Iowa. I found this, and this is how write-ins will be reported on election night. I shouldn't say it will be several months before the tallies are available since I really don't know how long it takes. I've never actually seen them reported, and I have complained about it. My local newspaper told me that people didn't care, so they would never, ever, ever report those. (That was in 1996.) But unless that write-in number is very, very high, it won't get media attention. The election will be over and the msm will have moved on before the votes are tallied.

Just as in this document, there will be a total for the number of write-ins. Some may be for Mickey Mouse or Lee Iacocca. Others will be for Ron Paul. There won't be a way to tell.

ETA: I called the auditor's office here, and they said that the votes are tallied and recorded at the county level BUT when they report the official vote count, they're not required to give a breakdown of the individual write-in candidates in each race. So, if someone in each of the 99 counties goes to the courthouse and gets the results for each county, we could get the total vote count. But apparently, it's actually never reported.

I just got back from the auditor's office. My vote is cast. There were 3 others there to vote while I was there. Looks like they have a healthy turnout in Des Moines. An Obama volunteer knocked on my door moments before I left to vote. She asked who I was voting for, and when I gave her a name other than Romney or Obama, she acted a little surprised. After I answered her question, she excused herself and moved on to the next house. I don't know if she was making a list, registering people, or offering rides to those who wanted to vote for Obama. Not sure what she was up to, but Obama has people canvassing today.

Thanks RockEnds!

I'm going to abstain from voting this year, as a silent form of protest and withdrawing my consent.

yeah, take that empire. we concede our voice in the election. i bet you are butt-hurt now!

Why is it that whenever I'm asked who I'm voting for, and I provide a simple, non-abrasive answer, the asker(s) act as if I have just personally pissed in their Cheerios? If you don't like the non-voting perspective, that's fine; I won't try to force you to become a non-voting anarchist. I respect your right to vote...so please, respect my right not to.

I'm gonna write in Ron Paul, just like I did in 2008.

Don't really care anymore. The election is a joke.

sorry, that is what i see written every time someone says they aren't voting.
whether you vote are not the government will persist. people are using a vote as a weapon against you. the only shield you have is your vote. if we put enough shields together, we can overtake these people who are attacking us with their votes.
saying- never mind. let them continue to attack me is quiting.
but in the end- u do what u do, i do what i do.
