'On the Beach, I Bring von Mises'

Ms. Bachmann is best known for her conservative activism on issues like abortion, but what I want to talk about today is economics. When I ask who she reads on the subject, she responds that she admires the late Milton Friedman as well as Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. "I'm also an Art Laffer fiend—we're very close," she adds. "And [Ludwig] von Mises. I love von Mises," getting excited and rattling off some of his classics like "Human Action" and "Bureaucracy." "When I go on vacation and I lay on the beach, I bring von Mises."

Bullshit. Ask her about the Austrian Theory of the Business Cycle. I bet she continues to drop names and titles.

She is definitely going to be a player.

That's ok. Why vote for 2nd string when you can elect the quarterback? :)

I seem to remember a couple years ago hearing that Ron put her on to LvM.

I'm all for it. The more of them (politicians) that at least understand his stuff the better!

I'm pretty fond of the fact that a popular member of Congress/presidential candidate is reading Mises.

It's a testament to Ron and all that he has accomplished.

Bleh. You can't own patents on ideas. I'm glad she is promoting Mises.

Is there a way to ask her about economics in the coming debate? I heard people would be able to ask questions that would be featured on the debate via twitter or something. It would be great if we could ask her about the business cycle.

"Co opts?" Whats the point of spreading a message if you get your nose out of joint when parts of it start to catch on?

Ron Paul said she came to his lunches and listened, read his books....she even had him talk to her crowd. I doubt she's as well studied as Paul, but I'll bet she's in a strong 2nd place.

The more common the name "Mises" is the better we all will be.

But yes, this is a campaign tactic of course. Has anyone looked at her voting record with a fine-toothed comb?
