Official Progressive Rock / Progressive Metal Thread

I was looking for some classic Emerson Lake & Palmer on YouTube when I happened to stumble upon this group's incredible cover version of "Trilogy."

I know this cover isn't prog. rock, but it sure is a striking homage, isn't it?

If you like Yngwie Malmsteen

I LOVE Malmsteen, especially his first 2 albums, “Rising Force” and “Marching Out”, after that, it seemed he was just cranking out albums for a while, IMHO. Other than that his “Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra” is about the only album that is full of great guitar work.

I have a fetish for talented guitar work, so if your into guitar, you also ought to check out Joe Satriani, especially his album “Surfing With The Alien”. Steve Via is good too, but his music is too dissonant for me, his song “For The Love of God” is my favorite of his work.

I also like two not-so-well-know guitarist that really impressed me, Bill Majoros and Garfo. The best thing about Bill Majoro is all of his songs you can down load for free!

Can't believe this thread doesn't have any Between the Buried and Me in it.

These videos are their live concert DVD. One of the most amazing live performances I have ever seen. Too bad I was not there in person.

I only posted 3 out of 11 so my post wouldn't be super long but watching them all is worth it.

Here's the drummer recording for their newest album. He is easily one of the best.

Wow this is a great thread! There are some things in here I have never heard that I will be exploring. I second or third or whatever The Mars Volta as a great prog band, especially for being modern

Anyone mention prog jazz rock? Mahvishnu Orchestra is a great band with John McLaughlin on guitar. Check out the song "one word"
And no mention of our fellow libertarian Frank Zappa here? :)
