A bookies odds aren't a reflection of the actual odds for the outcome of an event. They're a reflection of the size of the book and the bets so that the bookie makes money regardless of the outcome.

A bookies odds aren't a reflection of the actual odds for the outcome of an event. They're a reflection of the size of the book and the bets so that the bookie makes money regardless of the outcome.

The way I understand it, they want the money to be even on either side of the bet. That way they make money on the fees. So if they set the odds too high for Clinton, everyone will place bets on Trump and that will force them to lower the odds. So the odds are a reflection of what the bettors think will happen. And since they have money riding on it, it's as good a predictor as any.
