"OFFICIAL" Post your idea of how you would like to see Grassroots Central broken up.

I think media spin has to be different, and not show up on the front page. often we WANT to advertise good stories, but not hit pieces.

^^^^^^ what he /she said.

Ron is hitting very high in the polls. We're bound to get more traffic. Historically, "Grassroots Central" was designated for specific grassroots activist activities. It seems things have changed a bit on that, and that's ok. I'm not against it being a "dumping ground" or a "miscellaneous".

I just want to make sure that somebody wandering in, turned onto RP from a news story (and they've never heard about him before), will be able to find the latest discussion from a grassroots standpoint. I don't care about the UFO/2012/conspiracy reality etc stuff being in the forum, but I'd like to put RON'S best foot forward.

Every single person on this forum that supports Dr. Paul is a grassroots ambassador for the campaign. We need to ensure that our busiest sub-forum reflects a welcoming and informative environment.

Personally, I ONLY use New Posts.

I'd also like to add the suggestion that if the search word "OFFICIAL" is included in a thread title regarding a media appearance, that the OP assumes full responsibility for updating the first post of the thread with a link to the youtube or video of the appearance. This will make it a heck of a lot easier for people to search and seek the message.

If you break it up, will all three categories be Tweeted? The reason why I ask if you make one or two categories Tweetable, I would make it a moderated category to allow Mods to screen negative posts that would not be suitable for Tweets.

We need the main forum to be a general all-things-related to Ron Paul forum. But other categories can be useful.

Use New Posts?

Perhaps, the bigger problem is that not enough people are aware of "New Posts" function (link at upper left under home). This function is perfect for those that like the fast-paced, one stop shop for all things Paul.

I agree that the "new posts" function is a big part of a solution, and maybe we can publicize that some way. I didn't even know about it for the first year. ;)

It is not like this forum is abused. It takes a second to see if it is post you are interested in. Everyone here has the ability to follow threads they want. Sounds like unnecessary bureaucracy to me.

Why don't mods just tweet threads they think should be tweeted? Take the auto off of it. In cleaning up the forums a better use of sub-forums is a must to slim down the intimidating liberty forums list. We have to make it easy for new people to join and start posting quickly.

A How to use the forums primer or video would be great for people that are less internet savvy or computer literate. My girlfriend will not post because she really does not understand how the forums work, its intimidating for her. Simple organization is key, it needs to be friendly, inviting and logical.

Use New Posts?

Grassroots central has become a dumping ground for everything.
You disable "New Posts" when traffic's too high, and traffic's trending way upward. I'm mixed. If "New Posts" could simply be some type of forum itself, instead of just an after-thought fancy search function, then it'd be fine.... Or maybe have both "New Posts" - one with only public threads which isn't just a function of the search mechanic, and then the one we have now. Seems like there'd be a vB plugin for that somewhere.

Just out of curiosity, how do people look for posts? Almost ALL (95%) of the time, I select posts from the front page, over on the left side. The remaining 5%, I'm actually selecting a forum section (opposing candidates, grassroots central, etc) looking at threads, and that is usually when I am about to start a new thread and want to see if anyone beat me to it.

Actually, I greatly dislike the vBulletin format entirely, but I don't expect there is anything I can do about that. I also dislike having to look through different forums (hence the 95% figure above).

This is my preferred bulletin board style: http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/trailersailor/index.cgi (with Mixed Threaded Listing view)

I agree that the other sub-forums need to be used more effectively. There are a ton of different categories as it is. Also, I did not know about the new post feature, and I'll definitely be using that from now on. :)

Posted this in another thread. Figured I'd copy my response here in the official thread. :p

This section gets the most traffic, so people want to post their stories here to get views/replies. Many simply start their threads here and just expect them to be moved later. Making more subsections isn't really the answer in my opinion. Getting people to use the other subsections already in placed seems like a more logical solution. We already have tons of sections, we just need to start using them. my 2 cents.

I would at least like to see a sub-forum for video posts only. And I also mean that I'd prefer NOT to have to scroll past endless video clips in threads where just because someone used a particular turn of phrase, a bunch of others feel impelled to post a string of videos related to the phrase. Nothing derails a thread more quickly or is more of a pain in the butt.

Multiple members are requesting we break up grassroots central.

What would you like to see?

I was thinking breaking it into these three sections.

1. Grassroots Activism

2. Speculation and Predictions

3. Media and News (also polls and data)

Would like to see Media Spin remain it's own subforum.

I like these 3 ideas. That seems like a pretty logical way to separate it.

Now only if vbulletin allowed me to customize which subforums showed up in new posts. That would be awesome.

I a good idea whichever way you want to spilt it...

There's so many posts, good infomation and news, etc is being buried to page 3 in just 30-60 minutes.

Polls & Surveys, Voting is a definite

I'd like to see an Alert Banner Scroll: Vote immediately, Call, Email, Twitter actions ASAP... something along those lines Mods can turn it off and on, Flash colors (Red/Yellow) Sorta Requiring Immediate Actions/input etc. Get on C-SPAN, call in on this candidate, here's the Phone numbers.... etc.

Subsections Priority Grassroots Actions: ie "Help Needed in Manchester tomorrow 8AM" Show up with RP banners/posters in Ames at Noontime. Covert Anti-War Rally at Romney appearance... ;)

Phone From Homes/Communications section

Yeah, the banner idea is something I have thought might be helpful. Kind of a "breaking news" thing. Perhaps the implementation of that would be most simple if it was a "Breaking News" sub-forum at the same level as the "Grassroots Central" sub-forum, yet new threads would have to be started there by a moderator, similar to the way that the front page works. Actually, it could probably just be a duplicate of the front pages stories. Just throwing out some crazy ideas...
