"OFFICIAL" Post your idea of how you would like to see Grassroots Central broken up.

I hate subforums, they are the ban of my existence and they stifle discussion. People need to start using the litany of subforums already available and leave Grassroots alone.

Now one suggestion I do have is to add a "My threads' feature where it allows you to follow every thread you posted in easily.

You can change your settings to automatically subscribe to every thread you post in at Settings/General Settings/Default Thread Subscription Mode:
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

Then go to Settings/View all Subscribed Threads to view all threads you are subscribed to:
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&folderid=all

Please have a video/streaming section.
The problem with this is that most of us won't look in a video forum every day, or 50 times a day. When videos (or awesome articles, inspiring poll results, a fantastic grassroots idea, etc.) are posted to grassroots, hundreds of people see them immediately and can disseminate them quickly. If those posts are banished to a subforum, fewer people will see them and it will take longer for them to penetrate the grassroots. There is so much posted here that I would never have seen if the grassroots was ivided.

I think an ideal solution would be requiring a tag on threads posted in grassroots central, just like the opposing candidates section. You can have news, polls, activism, fundraising, videos, whatever. Then have a dropdown at the top, where users can choose to "view all" or view just those posts tagged "videos" or just those tagged "activism."

It would enable things to stay virtually the same, while also offering a solution for those who want everything broken up.

If things get broken into sub-forums, it would be helpful if each "parent" forum had its own "New Posts" search function. That way, those focused on "Grassroots Central" could view all of the new posts across those sub-forums without seeing the clutter of the the other forums/sub-forums.

Also: shameless plug for my product-review sub-forum suggestion that allows the thread star rating system to be used to rate the products:

Posted this in another thread. Figured I'd copy my response here in the official thread. :p

This section gets the most traffic, so people want to post their stories here to get views/replies. Many simply start their threads here and just expect them to be moved later. Making more subsections isn't really the answer in my opinion. Getting people to use the other subsections already in placed seems like a more logical solution. We already have tons of sections, we just need to start using them. my 2 cents.

If this is a problem, I would suggest considering a policy that when a mod moves any thread because it's in the wrong forum the original post get a negative rep. Of course, those threads that deviate into 'hot topics' materials would not be held against the OP.

I would avoid splitting up the forum because the large number of users give momentum and attract even more people

Now, moderators would need to work hard to merge threads and move threads that are more appropriate to other forums to their place

I would also make each thread page 25 posts long rather than 10 posts long. I would also double the default page length to show more topics in the forum page.

There need to be a subforum for POSITIVE media articles. There are so many now that Ron is doing so well, that it's flooding the grassroots forum.

Settings / General Settings/ Number of Posts to Show Per Page: Choose 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or Forum Default

I'm happy with the way things are. If the mods feel overburdened or cannot keep up with the thread organization then perhaps bring in more people that can help keep the grassroots section tidy.

I'm not sure any forum changes will give us the member discipline that we seek.

Josh.. there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Everything is already here.. just could be restructured and organized a bit to be more effecient is all.
look here, just an example from moving stuff around and tiny bit of renaming here or there...

You very much need a forum on Internet Promotion. Fold Networks & Technology into if you have to, but make it a main forum, not a subforum.

I was just on a popular thread in Grassroots where someone put up a Reddit and Digg mid-thread. I was the first person to do that, though it was several pages later. I would suggest an Internet Promotion forum for:

Facebook
Reddit
Digg
Huffington Post
Polls
Blogs & Blog Outlets
Writing articles for online media outlets
SEO ideas
Youtube & Vimeo
Organized Viral Efforts, especially with video

The internet is our playground, but you wouldn't always know that. E.g., Romney has twice the likes that Ron does on Facebook. Amazing videos like "You Like Ron Paul, Except on Foreign Policy" only have a couple hundred thousand views. They should be up into the millions. Even Serial Hypocrisy is under a million! We need to sharpen our focus.

personally i'd rather see everything in one place. it get's cluttered, but it's better than hunting through a long list of sections to find something interesting. gc gives us a "hub" where you can go to find out whatever happened in the day or anything else interesting all in one spot.

imho we could have just gc, general politics, and off topic. everything else is clutter.

Curious, what happened to this proposal? I thought there were a few moderators added to help organize things too.. ?

I still believe this will really hurt the site. We all come to the same place for a reason. I do not want to check multiple places, and in fact, probably won't. People will naturally congregate in the most popular place.

Most importantly, why change something that's been working?

Eh, members seemed pretty split over splitting RPGC in this thread.

Feedback wasn't as positive as I thought it would be so I dropped it.

Maybe add the possibility of tagging threads like there is in opposing candidates. I suggest:

-Poll
-Media Apperance
-Debate

Or split those three off into their own sub-forums within GRC

We should have sub Forum called "top priority" like a call to action sub forum. Where volunteers who are looking for something new and important to do today can check and see what they can do.

Or... We can utilize the.. Tbc

back...

Okay to continue...

What if we utilize the forums thread prefix function and then color code it?

Example:

Bold red = important / top priority / call to action
Green = news articles
Dark bold purple = media / YouTube
Orange = speculation
Gold = help with polls

I think we already have something like this in the opposing candidates forum. I think this is the best we can do right now to organize the ever exploding grassroots central forum!
