Official: Lew Rockwell Converts Naomi Wolf

I heard this interview the other day. I got the impression that Ms. Wolf just got a small taste of reality. She hasn't been around libertarianism long enough to really get it. Give her a few years. If she does her homework well, she might be of some use for the r3volution. For now, I am one of the cynical ones.

Its so hard for me to understand how someone who writes a book warning about impending fascism can be anything but libertarian on issues esp like gun control, if they view history honestly. Its the same way of how I feel about Glenn Beck not understanding what the 4th amenedment is for. Is it naivety? If they are so awake about the core of the problem, how do they not understand what each and every amendment is there for. The founding fathers were not vague in their reasoning for each amendment.

Murray Rothbard was always optimistic about bringing people over from the principled left as well.

We don't need to change their ideas about the goals and objectives they want to achieve, we just need to get them to question whether government, and the inherent use of force that it implies, is a moral or effective way of accomplishing it.

Fortunately, we have a lot of blatantly obvious corruption, corporatism, incompetence and conspiracy all becoming very obvious at this point and helping wake them up and begin questioning their implicit trust of government intervention.

I agree 100% with everyone who has said that liberals are easier to convert than "conservatives." :) I doubt Naomi Wolf has come around completely, but I think she shows a lot of promise.

2 of my favorite people!

Keep on educating Lew =)

For all the trash people here talk about Naomi sometimes, I read her latest book and it was extremely good

I listened to it and think this was a fantastic interview. Lew is a master at explaining libertarianism and Naomi is open and active-minded enough to accept it, and seem to be having an epiphany.

she was so shocked to hear that the government is only working for its own interest

This was actually one of the deepest intellectual convos I've heard for awhile, HIGHLY SUGGESTED

How do we know she's not a libertarian plant in the liberal circle? I'm glad that there are high-profile people like her supporting Obama. So when he does something (and he will) incredibly stupid and in blatant condradiction of American's rights, she can publicly withdraw her support and endorse a true Libertarian.

She seems to believe we need more time, and I agree. And under McCain she thinks there is the potential we would lose the internet and a lot of the other tools we use to spread the message of liberty. She sees a police state where dissent would result in imprisonment. I agree that it is possible to see that under McCain. I happen to think that is more likely to occur under Obama (he is a reactive Gen-Xer). She believes otherwise, and that is her right.

I am a bit frustrated with the attitude of many on this forum. That we need to immediately move toward an, admittedly ideal, anarcho-capitalist system. And there can be no tolerance of any government along the way. In my opinion we would be much better off taking small steps, and using their inevitable success in showing others the benefits of limited government and following the constitution.

Let's focus on eliminating the Federal Reserve. On ending foreign military occupations. And on reducing Presidential powers. These are issues any logical person (liberal or conservative) can agree with.

I'd rather have a movement of 50 million people that I agree with 70% of the time, than a movement of 5 million people that I agree with 90%. And if you seriously think we can have a movement of nearly everyone that we will agree with 100% of the time, then you are just as hopelessly utopian as those we are trying to eliminate.

But imagine if she is truly won over? That is a very huge asset on our side. Hey, everyone has gone through that "OMFG what have I been thinking" moment. I liken it to when you realize Santa Claus isn't real. Then you think about the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, and realize that you have been had! It takes a little while to get rid of that brainwashing for the 40+ years she has been alive right? She is more apt to listen to information because she has taken the steps to find out the answers to her questions.

We don't want people feeling like they are riding on "Space Mountain" for days on end when they start realizing the truth. :D They will just be panic stricken and fearful. But yeah, eventually the truth does set you free! ;)

- A little premature, don' t ya think? She's learning. We've all been there. She's fighting the good fight from her point of view. She was raised to believe what she believes but I 100% applaud her interests in wanting to learn more. So many of us think we've got it all figured out and automatically shut people out and don't remain open to new perspectives. The fact that she's doing that speaks volumes for her character and integrity. Her stock just went through the roof for me personally. Even if she hears the libertarian message and decides it's not something she agrees with then I still applaud her for intellectually entertaining new ideas. Again, I applaud her. I wish there were many more women with her interest in the well being of the country eventhough we may disagree on the details. Good for her. I hope I marry a strong woman who isn't so set in her ways that she disregards opposing opinions like that one day.

But that is the fallacy of the two party system. You have to make a choice and you want to be on the winning team. "Oh, shit, there's a third option? Well nobody told me that!!!!!" :D

I have managed to gain some respect for wolf, but i remain skeptical

I am hugely disappointed of her support of obama... but i am also hugely disappointed in your support of McCain...

bah bah bah

god dam sheep everywhere nowadays.

I think this is the biggest thing to happen to the liberty movement since...Ron Paul!

The point isn't whether Naomi is "converted" or not, the point is that she is ASKING QUESTIONS! I think Lew is deceiving in that he's so nonshalant (sp?) about this whole thing.

Send this one far and wide, especially to your dem friends!

The clinger is if she continues her mindless speaking points in future interviews, talks etc..

We shall see... Hope she is genuine but, a good addition.. :)

Exactly. Asking questions. :D
