Official GA GOP Convention thread

Just passed a resolution to not support or endorse anyone who supports the NDAA, everyone was like yea. Then, hey, romney supported the NDAA...

now I think they need 2/3 to take it back

now the chair is saying they don't need to vote to withdraw... he says he can withdraw the resolution by himself
Wow, "If you're going to withdraw resolutions where the votes don't go in your favor, you're undermining the process".

Get em!

Making up BS excuses that it's bad for the State if those from counties with democrat majorities contribute to a motion against supporting someone who supports NDAA?

no not voted down, the chair withdrew it on his own.

The chair cannot withdraw something once it has been placed before the assembly. The chair's vote is 1 vote, like any one else - he has no more say on handling than any other delegate there.

Edit: Beyond that, the chair is expected to remain neutral, only placing his vote as a tie breaker.

He gave some kind of justification for it, but I didn't catch it all. And for the moment looks like they've moved on.

It doesn't matter if it's justified because he's simply not allowed to do it. If 2/3 of the members believe the "justification," then those 2/3 can undo the resolution by the proper motion.

As the chairman of the convention, he shouldn't be even attempting to justify it because that's a non-neutral position.

It was some BS like "The amendment needed to be submitted before a certain time and wasn't", for it to take a majority to withdraw (or pass, I dunno?)....

Does that sound right at all? I just stepped out and can't figure out what they're discussing now, or if they continued to discuss it.

Either way, that just about would have been too good to be true if they could pass something saying none of them would support Romney, but looks like we got the numbers there!

Yes, it was a sweet 10 seconds after everybody said yea before they realized what they did.

Discussion to adopt agenda and rules now.

He's restarted the stream, so the video may be saved on ustream.

They tried to change the rules to nominate delegates from the floor but I don't think that's gonna happen.

Really wishing I'd bought some new computer speakers. :sigh:

Keep us updated if you can hear better what's going on. I keep having to put the speaker up to my ear

Wow, the crowd seemed pretty damn split on that one when they stood up. It really sounded like we had a majority, but now not so sure.

Still so confused on which motion just failed and what's going on..

They're trying to change the rules so they can nominate delegates from the floor before they adopt the rules. Otherwise they will be voting on a pre-selected list.

This will likely go to a roll call vote. Chair says he sees a 2/3 majority to adopt the rules as-is, and we are trying to get a roll call.

It's been notched up a few levels now to vote on the vote on whether or not to take a vote...

Chair tried (and sounds like he did) to overrule calls for division, though it sounded to me like they still have the majority.

Love that they at least made the point to all there that Romney is for indefinite detention.

This seems more productive than my canvassing so far. I gave out some voters registration forms but no one wanted me to fill them out and send them in for them, so I just hope they actually do it...

Love what they're doing in Georgia!
