Welcome to my official Flying While Asian thread.

This is a project of which I am passionate and I should have started years ago.

Let this be the first entry:

Woman who died in Indiana plane crash was trying to fly solo around the world

Nguyen was born in Vietnam, moving to the United States when she was 12 years old. She received a bachelor' of science's in math and a master's in aeronautics and astronautics engineering from Purdue University. She received a doctoral degree in aeronautics and astronautics engineering from Georgia Institue of Technology.

"As an Asian woman, I faced many obstacles and challenges to get to where I am today, especially adapting to a new culture, language, and life in the United States. I wanted to give back and inspire the next generation," she told Purdue University.

Thank goodness she had a PhD in astronomics or else she would have crashed harder.

The article has all of the usual stuff about wanting be the first Vietnamese wymyn to fly around the world and to inspire young people (DEI) in STEM (dumbing down science for DEI). I spared all of you from that so you can read it yourselves.

Hmmm. Engine was silent. Could have been a mechanical failure? Or maybe the fuel was turned off? Those fuel control switches can be pretty confusing...

TheTexican, in my opinion, nailed it.

Yes, high odds on this being a failed response to an engine failure and/or simply really bad basic skills or inattention.

Also possibly a gust lock still installed, which is still her fault, but at least it is an equal-opportunity screw up that seems to show up across the spectrum of experience levels.

Lesser likely possibility of a flight control/airframe failure. This will be known early in the investigation.

This was timely.

Found this in my Fedbook feed just now.

Be frightened when you fly.....
