the DOE is bloated; and beauracracy sucks. I'm totally up for reforming it. But eliminating it would take away major sources of funds for public schools throughout the nation. Thats would be a major problem for them.

So, we're stuck because the federal government took on this expensive and useless task, and is so in debt that it won't cut taxes even if it gives up power? Or we're in such sad shape that we can't educate our children without plunging them into debt at the same time no matter what we do? And does the ED really pay for more than the local school system bureaucrats who jump through their hoops? And, once again, what the hell does Energy have to do with anything?

The ED pays for approximately 35-45% of school funds depending upon the kind of district you are located in.

I want major reform. But removing the Department will not decrease taxes. You have to decrease taxes to decrease taxes. It will remove more areas of expenditure; but the same amount of taxes will still be collected.
