Wow!!! What a surprise... Just exactly what benefit is the DOE? When parents were removed from their responsibilty of educating their prodigy our society went to the toilet. The government decides for us what we need to learn and makes a one size fits all form of educating thus failing all those who don't fall within the norm.

Hey you know some children eat inappropriately every day due to parental neglect of balanced dietary requirements since parents are not certified health care professionals.. Maybe we should create a federal entity to mandate food allotments to guarantee all children eat properly. Then we will tax everyone regardless of whether they have children or not and force families to eat at community eating halls to guarantee the children eat balanced meals thus improving the health of our society and lessening the drain on the medical/insurance system. What do you think? Isn't the health of a child as important as their education and as draining to society when not attended to properly?

What the hell does the Department of Energy have to do with education? Are you trying to say you're against eliminating the ED? Do we really need to be stuffed with more alphabet soup? Why were public schools better in my day than today? Could it be because the local school districts had more resources for actual education before the federal government demanded that they hire full-time staffs just to keep up with their federal paperwork?

The ED forces superintendents, principals and teachers to jump through hoops. I challenge you EM--nay I dare you--to name one positive outcome of the nationalization of public education since 1980. I triple-dog dare you. Let's see it!

the DOE is bloated; and beauracracy sucks. I'm totally up for reforming it. But eliminating it would take away major sources of funds for public schools throughout the nation. Thats would be a major problem for them.
