I don't think anyone really knows Ted Cruz's personal view on foreign policy, but I'm willing to guess he isn't an interventionist and he probably doesn't identify as a noninterventionist either. Warmonger rhetoric is trivial to me as long as his actual views are that of a restrained foreign policy and military.

He's been hiding his actual views quite well. Although unlike Rubio he hasn't hired neocon advisers I dont think so we'll see.

To me, realism isn't so much an ideology as it is a way of hiding your identity. In someone like Colin Powell's case, it was trying to hide his neocon instincts. To Rand, I think he just sees realist as a better word/label than noninterventionist.

Yeah, but I think that is nuts. There is no better description than noninterventionist. Ron said he would describe his entire philosophy as noninterventionism. It is a wonderful term, because it encompasses all the different aspects of liberty.

I guess I'm just disappointed in Flake because I remember the days before the liberty movement was particularly strong when Flake was considered the 2nd best libertarian in Congress.

I think Rand doesn't want to be labeled as an isolationist like Ron was.

Yes, Maine got punked. I LOL'd.

But he's in now and once your in as a governor your embedded. You're on the local news every other day, you're in the paper, you respond to events, you meet constituents, you write op-eds, you dominate the state's politics. You even get to attend the White House bashes and get your picture with the president.

If he builds a name for himself and his name recognition improves because of being an incumbent then he can become more popular and more acceptable and if he's remembered for doing a good job then might be able to run for one of those senate seats in future.

Lepage has 39/55 approval/disapproval. He can only win again with an independent to split the vote.

Flake does not support Manchin-Toomey.

He's far from perfect, but has been fairly consistent against universal background checks.

Look, let Susan Collins do her thing, she's usually there on the most critical votes anyway. Our goal should be to flip Dem held seats and SAFE Republican seats, and then lobby for Manchin or Heitkamp to join the Republican Party after the 2014 midterms when Obama tries to ram climate change through.

Would you rather have McConnell or Reid leading the Senate? Would you rather have Rand Paul dealing with Democrats or Republicans in the majority? Richard Shelby switched after 94 and he's been a pretty solid conservative. I'm only saying this in the instance of a 50-50 Senate.

Well, being from North Dakota, I can tell you that you would be hard pressed to convince Heitkamp to switch parties. That is why I questioned it; she just doesn't seem like a likely candidate to do that.
