This has upset me greatly. It's not that I have anything against Mayor Jones, but that she should run unopposed for mayor is a travesty of the democratic process. I detest few things more than getting a ballot with a position that has only one name.
Thus, after conferring with the Mrs last night, I have decided to file as a candidate for town mayor. I've been threatening to do this for 15 years and the article above just pushed me enough in that general direction.
I'd love to run a fun campaign... something slightly different and off center from a standard boring "Vote The Biss for Mayor", while incorporating policies of constitutionalism and libertarianism on a local level.
I have a couple grand stashed away that I could use to get started. And I work in a sign shop... so promotional materials are already taken care of. What I would like help with from fellow Ron Paulers is:
What would you like to see from a local campaign for mayor. As a libertarian, which platforms would be of most concern to you? What would catch your eye and make you more inclined to research those campaign platforms more in depth. What crosses over from a fun campaign to a full tilt gonzo campaign? Bear wrestling? Kangaroo boxing? Chicken dinner fundraisers where you go home with a live chicken?
My hope is to use this thread and a sister thread at GIM to document the whole process of running from now until November. Your input is very much appreciated.
In November, the town will elect a mayor and two commissioners, seats now held by Mayor Vivian Jones and Commissioners Frank Drake and Margaret Stinnett.
Even from this distance, it appears Jones has a lock on the election for her third term. She ran unopposed four years ago, recycling her yard signs from the 2001 election, and she may do the same this time around.
