If the Republican presidential primary were held today, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would garner the most votes, according to a new Newsmax/Zogby poll.

Christie received 11.4 percent of the votes in the survey, just ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who collected 11.2 percent, and Rand Paul, 10.1 percent.

Christie led the pack among males, white voters, and those with a college degree.

Bush did nose out Christie among Republican respondents, 12.2 percent to 11.3 percent, while Christie led among independents with 12 percent, ahead of Paul at 10.4 percent.

The poll offered respondents a list of 21 potential candidates. Here are the candidates and the percentage of the survey votes they received:

Chris Christie, 11.4
Jeb Bush, 11.2
Rand Paul 10.1
Paul Ryan, 9.1
Sarah Palin, 6.9
Ted Cruz, 6.5
Marco Rubio, 3.7
Rick Santorum, 2.8
Rick Perry, 1.6
Scott Wallker, 1.5
Allen West, 1.4
Ben Carson, 1.3
Bobby Jindal, 0.9
Mitch Daniels, 0.8
John Kasich, 0.8
Rob Portman, 0.8
Jim DeMint, 0.4
Bob McDonnell, 0.3

Sarah Palin is polling fairly well considering there is very little chance she is going to run in 2016. She said she stands with Rand recently, maybe her supporters could be convinced to vote for Rand.

"Pollsters interviewed 418 likely voters, including Democrats, Republicans and Independents, as well as a variety of age groups and background. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent."

Did you guys even read the link?

No ... according to the poll, he would have gotten the most votes from the 418 people surveyed. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE, GODAMMIT!!

New Jersey presidential primaries are "closed." So how many of those Democrats surveyed are "likely Republican primary voters" ... ?

The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.

:eek::eek::eek:

So - Christie and Paul are separated by 1.3 percent in a (dubious) poll that has a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percent.

Yet Christie "would garner the most votes" ...

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd chalk this all up to deliberate journalistic malfeasance if it weren't for the fact that most people (and especially "journalists") seem to be utterly incapable of critical thought when presented with numbers that are" all scientifficky and stuff."

"Hey! These numbers've got decimals in them! They must be accurate and precise!"

Nice numbers, but, as Stalin said, "It's not he who votes who counts, it's he who counts the votes."

Rand will NEVER win unless something is done about electronic vote fraud.

Which, during the past couple of presidential elections, has been rampant.

You should be more careful not to judge the intentions of a group you are not a member of. Having a margin of error certainly does not mean you must... what? Round your numbers? Decimals, and their usage, have a specific context, of which this poll is not necessarily misusing.

That being said, it is quite nice that Paul is within the margin reach of 1st place; as is Cruz, Palin, Ryan and Bush.

Too early. Too many candidates.

Seriously, when was the last time Rand was at 10% in a national GOP primary poll?

Her followers are as cultish as we are. She can definitely convince people to vote for a candidate.

Thank you for the summary. Yeah, dems are likely to lean Christie for who they'd want to be for the GOP nominee since Christie is seen as liking Obama. That means Christie will not make it out of the first primaries if he even runs.
