New Zealand Terror Attack: Australian gunman shoots dead several people in Christchurch mosque

Following reports that a flood of New Zealand gun owners have been voluntarily surrending their firearms in the wake of last Friday's Christchurch mosque attack that left 50 dead, the numbers are in on how many Kiwis actually handed over their weapons.

Out of an estimated 1.2 million registered guns, New Zealand police report that as of Tuesday night, 37 firearms have been surrendered nationwide, according to BuzzFeed.
No accounting was provided of how many people owned those guns, the types of firearms, or where they were surrendered.
The reports of citizens disarming themselves come after a Monday announcement by Prime minister Jacinda Ardern that several "in principle decisions" on gun control have been made by Cabinet ministers, and has praised residents who have surrendered their guns to police.
So far, we know of four people who have; Green Party member John Hart and longtime gun owner "@SirWB" - who each turned in a rifle, a grandmother who goes by the Twitter handle "@FeyHag" who said she requested for her family's guns to be handed in for destruction, and former New Zealand Army soldier Pete Breidahl - who said he warned local police of extremists at a local rifle club where he said he suspected the shooter was a member.
"All I want is to go back to my horses, say goodbye to firearms and the bullshit shooting community and its drama and let the police and government sort this one out," wrote Breidahl in a Facebook post. "I don’t NEED, want or care about guns. I can happily live my life without them."
Most reports cited three tweets, including that of John Hart, a farmer and Green Party member from Wairarapa, who told BuzzFeed News he surrendered his semiautomatic rifle two days after the attack.
He tweeted a photo of the form he signed to hand over his rifle to the police to be destroyed, saying, "We don't need these in our country. We have to make sure it's #NeverAgain." -BuzzFeed
Ardern asked residents to surrender their weapons on Monday.
"To make our community safer, the time to act is now," she said. "I want to remind people, you can surrender your gun to the police at any time. In fact I have seen reports that people are in fact already doing this. I applaud that effort, and if you are thinking about surrendering your weapon, I would encourage you to do so."
Looks like that was wishful thinking on the part of the Prime Minister.

Family escapes Syrian war only to be gunned down in New Zealand mosque shooting

March 18, 2019

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. – Among those killed in the New Zealand mosque shooting were members of a Circassian family who had just been relocated to New Zealand three months ago after fleeing the Syrian war.
The family's plight has become an instant focus for the tight-knit Circassian community in New Jersey.
At her Haledon home, Rouzana Muhajer was crying and scanning social media for news of the mosque shooting Friday when she got word that her childhood friend had been at one of the two mosques where the massacre unfolded.

The friend, Salwa Tsay, escaped, but her husband Khaled Mustafa, a horse trainer, and her son Hamza, 14, an award-winning equestrian, were killed. Another son Zaid, 12, was shot three times and remains in critical condition. The refugee family had escaped the Syrian war, but knew no one in New Zealand .
So on Monday morning, Muhajer and friend Sahab Dabet boarded a flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport headed to New Zealand via Los Angeles to offer their condolences and help. With them, they bring a united message of support from the Circassian community, who in diaspora around the world have rallied around this family.

Who are Palestine refugees?

According to UNRWA, Palestine refugees are “persons whose normal place of residence was Palestine during the period June 1, 1946 to May 15, 1948, and who lost both home and means of livelihood as a result of the 1948 conflict.”

UNRWA services are available to all those living in its area of operations who meet this definition, who are registered with the Agency and who need assistance. The descendants of Palestine refugee males, including adopted children, are also eligible for registration.

When the Agency began operations in 1950, it was responding to the needs of about 750,000 Palestine refugees. Today, some 5 million Palestine refugees are eligible for UNRWA services.

  • 1.3 million Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip (out of a total population of 1.9 million Palestinians)
  • 809,738 Palestine refugees in the West Bank (including East Jerusalem)
  • Around half a million Palestine refugees in Syria
  • Around 450,000 Palestine refugees in Lebanon
  • 2 million+ Palestine refugees in Jordan

New Zealand Bans ‘Military-Style’ Semiautomatics, ‘High-Capacity’ Mags

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...tary-style-semiautomatics-high-capacity-mags/

AWR HAWKINS 20 Mar 2019

Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern announced Thursday that New Zealand has officially banned “military-style” semiautomatic rifles and “high-capacity” magazines.

The Daily Mail quoted Ardern saying, “On March 15 our history changed forever. Now, our laws will too. We are announcing action today on behalf of all New Zealanders to strengthen our gun laws and make our country a safer place.” She added, “Now, six days after this attack, we are announcing a ban on all military style semi-automatics and assault rifles in New Zealand.”

Ardern noted that “related parts used to convert these guns into [military style semi-automatics] are also being banned, along with all high-capacity magazines.”

CBS News reported Ardern saying, “We’re taking out of circulation the guns that can be modified that way and are designed essentially to take lives.”

(That means confiscation. - AF)

After announcing the ban, Ardern addressed law-abiding gun owners, saying, “To owners who have legitimate uses for their guns, I want to reiterate that the actions being announced today are not because of you, and are not directed at you. Our actions, on behalf of all New Zealanders, are directed at making sure this never happens again.”

(You are taking people's property. You are taking away people's rights. Not a one of them has done anything wrong. But you're doing it anyway. OF COURSE IT IS DIRECTED AT THEM YOU NUMB CUNT, YOU. - AF)

On March 16, 2019, Breitbart News reported that the Christchurch attacker possessed five guns during his attack, and two of those guns were semiautomatic rifles. He had a license to own guns in New Zealand and acquired his guns legally.

New Zealand to Broadcast Muslim Call to Prayer Friday as #HeadScarfforHarmony Campaign Urges Non-Muslim Women to Wear Hijab

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced New Zealand will broadcast the Muslim call to prayer across the nation on TV and radio Friday. That same day New Zealand women are being encouraged to wear the Islamic head covering on Friday in sympathy with Muslims in the wake of the mass shooting terror attack by white eco-nationalist Brenton Tarrant at two Christchurch mosques last Friday that killed 50 and wounded dozens.

One News Now reported several similar hijab campaigns are planned for Friday in New Zealand.

A number of events have been planned by separate groups.

The Islamic Women’s Council have told the organiser of the Scarves in Solidarity event, Raewyn Rasch, that it is an “amazing idea”.

Ms Rasch said the event is open to everyone in New Zealand and is a “symbolic gesture”.

Headscarf for Harmony is another event planned for Friday, inviting Kiwis to wear a headscarf or head covering at “work, school or play”.

Another event, called Wear a Headscarf Friday, is aimed at women in the Christchurch region and had been supported by the New Zealand Muslim Association. Thousands have expressed interest in the events on Facebook.

The Headscarf for Harmony campaign is receiving criticism from Muslim women opposed to the hijab.
