I've been working on a pet project related to Ron Paul for a while now and am at a point where I'm going to need quite a bit of help with it from the community. I don't have a lot of time between work and trying to help with the campaign but I really want to do this for both posterity, my own growth and because I feel it is important.

If I could have quit my job, I would have been filming and documenting this incredible historic campaign from day one so that it is not forgotten -- this project is my compromise :D

Without further ado:

Project:
The Ron Paul Timeline
http://www.RonPaulTimeline.com

Purpose:
Document the history of Ron Paul in an interactive timeline from start to finish. I'd like to document as much as possible, PARTICULARLY the media bullcrap and the historical grassroots movement, but other key things are:

  • Basic historical events, such as when Ron went into/out of office, started his practice, etc.
  • Important speeches and interviews, like where he grills Bernanke or addresses congress on key issues such as the Iraq war
  • Milestones such as when he announces his run for presidency (both times)
  • Important vote dates such as the patriot act
  • Other important events pertaining to his years as a congressman and doctor as well as his presidential campaign.
  • The variety of media blunders and black-outs as specifically as possible.
  • Various grassroots events such as the Boston Tea Party.

Help Needed:
Compiling the list, of course :) And you can do so in a simple form right on the web site.

Thank you in advance for building this (what is sure to be a fairly large) database of Ron's history!

I think RonPaulLibrary.org has most of this information for the items they have on file, and that should be a good place to flesh out a basic timeline.

Any ideas on how you're going to present the timeline yet? It would be nice if it were categorized by keywords, so that you could select "Civil Liberties" or "Libertarian Presidential Campaign" and only those items would appear on the timeline. That would make the timeline an interactive tool for exploring Dr. Paul's positions, and more importantly, how little they change over time.

Sounds like a fascinating project. Put me on your PM list; not sure how much time I'll have, but I'll think about it some more at least.

You know how embedded youtubes (after you watch them, say on LRC:cool:) have those pictures that you can scroll through, representing different videos? Maybe you could get the timeline to work a bit like that? That'd be slick presentation.

*Some Ideas, but not full submissions, as that'd take time to research*:p

*Ron Paul's exclusion from from that Tax Forum in Des Moines, and the subsequent (and much larger) coinciding event that Ron Paul had. I was there and it was (I believe) his first event with an audience over 1,000.

*Iowa Straw Poll & Speech

*Saul Anuzis & GOP's attempt to block Ron Paul from all debates (futile)

*Formation of RonPaulForums (get the date from the mods/admin) and track its growth

*Ron Paul Blimp--that's a given.

*'I TAKE MY MARCHING ORDERS FROM THE CONSTITUTION, MOTHERFUCKER!' clip

*Huckabee owned by Ron Paul in Faux debate

*McCain owned by Ron Paul over noninterventionism/isolationism/WWII CNN debate

*Romney owned by Ron Paul at MSNBC debate over Constitutional authority of President

*Ron Paul's repeated Faux debate text poll & Hannity crying

*The racism charge as appeared on Tucker, with the Blitzer interview & NAACP guy defending him, refuting the bullshit

*Formation of Operation Live Free or Die

*Montage of video endorsements

*History of his fundraising totals

*Many more, but that oughtta fill your schedule for a bit:D

Ah, thanks for the reminder of that great resource.

I haven't finalized the presentation design of the timeline yet (it exists in rough pencils at the moment), but the basic idea is that it will be a rich experience. You've actually given me some food for thought -- the ability to link related events together would present a unique way to travel through time. I'll add "tags" and "related events" to the submission form above. Thanks!

Yup, I'm thinking something in that direction. I was actually planning a bit more sophistication, but we'll see :) I may have an interim, simple version just to get it up as quickly as possible, but long term I see a very rich interactive experience.

Thanks for the bullets to research!!

Yeah, if you have an even better idea, then by all means go for it! I can see something like this becoming quite popular. You could make each event clickable with multiple options, most importantly, a comment section. People will have firsthand accounts of pretty much everything you can put in the timeline. That'd be awesome.

You're welcome--I could think of many more, but I'll give my brain some recharge time. But most importantly, thank you for this awesome idea!

I've put up just a placeholder table on the site for now and will update it as I can and as submissions come in.

Just discovered your site, and thought I'd bump this thread up... looking at the site, it's a great reminder of the great FEAR AND TERROR that Ron Paul is striking in the heart of the mainstream media :)

Fab idea! For Sure a Must, our history demands this! How truly sad it is for a free country to act in such a manner. Thank you so much for doing this! For me, this means a great deal personally as I am sure for all of us who support this campaign. I will be watching!

Nice site, it's like a great reminder of the great things that has happened as well as all the negative stuff. Great site, keep it up.

I thought I would let you know that each network licensee has to keep a political file of each candidate's airtime, whether it is paid for or as a news piece. According to the FCC rules they are supposed to allow EQUAL air time to ALL of the candidates. This file is available under the FOIA.

1/31/08 says "Ron Paul's new book "The Revolution: A Manifest" becomes Amazon.com's #11 bestseller thanks to pre-orders before it's even released"

the "o" was left off "Manifesto" :)

Supposedly, but there have been people that have stated that this only applies to broadcast networks and most of these networks are cable.

Interesting debate then becomes -- well, does that mean that since the government has mandated everything go digital that the rules no longer apply at all?

In any case, I would not be surprised if the recordings of the coverage have gone missing.

Suggestions

1) In the section where you mention the racist people supporting Ron Paul, maybe say "some racist people support Ron Paul", instead of "racist people support Ron Paul". ;)

2) Somehow convey in the history of the primaries and caucii(?) who Ron beat in each one. It's important to the context of media blackout that people understand that RP was basically wiping the floor with RG and beating all of them at least once (I think) and being essentially ignored for his efforts.

Thanks for putting this together.
