2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul is staying competitive head-to-head with the incumbent President, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll.

Paul garners 46 percent of the vote to Obama's 49 percent, within the +/- 4 percent margin of error for the survey. Paul fares better among nationally registered voters than fellow GOP competitors Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. Paul's main competitor nationally, Mitt Romney, comes in tied with Obama at 48 percent.

"We've been saying this has been a two-man race between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney, and this poll is further proof. This also demonstrates Ron Paul's competitive edge against the sitting president in a general election since Paul is the candidate capable of gaining support from independents and disenfranchised Democrats," said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

The results are based on telephone interviews conducted Jan. 27th and 28th, with a random sample of 907 registered voters, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

Jesse keeps saying its a two man race...why are we continually polling around last place in these latest primary/caucus polls

We aren't continuously, remember Iowa and NH?

Some states Ron will do better in than others, which is why he isn't putting money into Florida. His numbers dropped because of it, but they will come back up if his efforts in the other states pay off.

But a lot of why he polls lower is media keeps saying he can't win even though he always polled better against Obama than any GOP candidate but Romney.

I would like to think this is the case..but unfortunately I don't think it matters how much Ron campaigns. The media won't cover his campaigning and the people will vote for whose name they hear repeated the most times on TV.

Well then, you might as well give up.

I'm counting on the people being more fed up than that.

SC and Florida was the rough patch in the early states, after Florida we get back to more winnable states.
