Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Millions of Americans -- and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound money, no income tax, and peace. We will not falter so long as there is one restriction on our persons, our property, our civil liberties. How much I owe you. I can never possibly repay your generous donations, hard work, whole-hearted dedication and love of freedom. How blessed I am to be associated with you. Carol, of course, sends her love as well.

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican.

I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen.

In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your support, as always. And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons, the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be hearing much from you and me.

Sincerely,

Ron

Saddened. By March or April if we haven't turned it around, we are going to be fighting just to keep this movement alive if Ron Paul doesn't reverse his decision not to run as a third party or independent candidate. On the other hand, we need to do all we can to get the best showing possible in remaining states. And if that doesn't work, then we still petition Dr. Paul to run as an independent, after his primary is won.

Just because he's down on the idea, it doesn't hurt to firmly ask if all hope is lost for the GOP nomination.

RP knows what he is doing and what he is talking about.

Listen up.

i have faith in dr. paul. i will follow him to the end of the earth, 3rd party, republican, no party, whatever. i'm all in, till the end.

He's not gonna run 3rd party. He has said that explicitly in this email, and he doesn't go back on his word.

This movement is bigger than Ron Paul, and he implies in the email that he will be very involved with the movement in the future, President or no President.

my take - need to win a state.

i agree with this. in a way, with romney out, we have won some states. too bad this hasn't been sorted out or reported in the media (not that i'd ever count on the media for anything).

agreed. might i add i am so proud of dr. paul, for having stuck it out and continued to fight for freedom for so many years when it seemed like all hope was lost. finally, at the age of 73, he's found that hope is not lost.

it's a new beginning.

This needed to be said, but we shouldn't throw in the towel. We'll still carry on towards the convention, but the chances right now of winning the nomination are nearly zero and the chances of winning as a third party candidate are zero. It's foolish to even discuss a third party run at this point.

If we truly care about the message of liberty, prosperity, and peace, we MUST ensure that Ron does not lose his congressional seat.

I don't support a third party transition, and I still wholeheartedly support Ron, but I do NOT support this email.

It seems really 'beaten dog'-ish. Like he's throwing in the towel.

I know realism is crucial, but this is also very disheartening. Especially for those that aren't hardcore Ron Paul supporters. It's like he's saying "Ok folks, pack up and go home - this race is over (But don't forget about my Congressional race)."

My $.02

My take:

Thank you very much for your donation of $500.00 to the Committee to Re-Elect Ron Paul.
Your donation will allow us to expand and grow our campaign.
We depend on donors like you to help us spread the message of freedom, peace and prosperity.
Thanks for being a part of the campaign!

FFS, read the other thread.

anyway. if he's discouraged it's because we didn't donate enough! this has to be fixed!

Rp knows whats going on. Alot of questions answered in this email. He wont give up. He wont run 3rd party. Moderators start deleting threads :P

I read this as that he doesn't want to risk losing his congressional seat in the event he does not get the nomination. I understand that to fight in congress is better than not at all. I think a 3rd party run would cause him his congressional seat.

Downsizing is understandable as there are now only 3-4 states at a time rather than the 24 on Tuesday.

I hope this grassroots will stay strong as the goal has to be to get other RP minded people into office. There needs to be a way to keep all of us connected so that no matter who is running where ever on the RP platform that we can help. One by one the seats can be taken so that the message keeps getting louder in Washington.

Reducing the bloated (and in some cases questionably-devoted and incompetent) campaign staff is a HUGE step in the right direction.

McCain is going to be exposed. This ain't over yet, folks!

The email says it all. It is over. I am astounded with the money we have given and the grassroot support and Romney voters with no where to go and he will not run third party. What a loss, what a crock.

You're pathetic. If you don't have the intestinal fortitude to stay the course, buh bye!
