Here is a new email from Dr. Paul. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but it sounds as if he is giving up on his Presidential run and focusing solely on his Congressional seat. If that's the case, I'm not enthusiastic at all.

The DC neocons think their old dream is about to come true. They think they can defeat me in the Republican congressional primary in Texas on March 4th. And you know what? They may be right.

My opponent, who describes himself as a traditional conservative, is a dedicated servitor of all the special interests who have given us the disaster of recent years, from unconstitutional wars to a looming recession, from huge deficits to massive new welfare programs.

A Republican operative allied with the worst forces in DC recently said: "Give what you can [to Ron Paul's opponent]. Ron Paul is running scared -- using his Presidential campaign's donors' money to subsidize a desperate last-minute attempt to save his Congressional seat."

That is a lie, of course. It is illegal to use presidential campaign donations in my congressional race. The congressional campaign has to stand on its own. But so far, we have raised only about a third of what a well-funded effort would need.

In my 10 terms in Congress, I have not only been able to serve my constituents, and help them, for example, negotiate federal red-tape. I have also been able to defend our principles of less spending, lower taxes, no inflation, and strict adherence to the Constitution. Some people in DC laugh at the idea that I should obey my oath of office, and ask first of any proposed legislation, is it constitutional? But I know that you share my support for the vision of the framers.

My friend Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest (R-Maryland) was just defeated in his primary election by a neocon fraud similar to the one I face. My friend Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) is under heavy pressure as well. People like our hand-picked opponents will do anything to gain and keep power. They represent everything that is wrong with DC.

If I am defeated in the upcoming congressional primary, our ideas will be held to have been defeated as well. It will be proclaimed from the rooftops in DC that such "ridiculous and outmoded notions" as the free market, sound money, personal liberty, limited government, and a pro-American foreign policy are through.

I am determined not to let this happen. All that you and I believe in is far too important to the future of our country, and to everyone and everything we love, to let the neocons dance on its grave.

Please, help me stop the lies, the distortions, the pressure groups, the special interests that benefit from DC rip-offs. There is still time to run radio and tv ads, to set up phone banks, to get out the vote. But unless you help, my reelection to Congress may be in jeopardy. Please help me return to Congress to fight for the people of my district, and for the ideas that can save our country from the path to trouble we are now on.

I hesitated to ask you, since you have already done so much. But my wife Carol said, "When you need help, you ask your best friends." So I do ask you, to hold out your hand in support.

Please give today http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com, as generously and as quickly as you can.

Sincerely,

Ron

He already told us that he is going to focus on the congressional race a bit, i don't see any hint about giving up on the presidential run at all.
Too bad Wayne Gilchrest was defeated in the primary.

I don't see anything in there about giving up at all, nothing to be pessimistic about. I didn't receive this e-mail. I did however, get this one today:

February 18, 2008

Dear William,

Join Campaign Manager Lew Moore and National Field Director Debbie Hopper tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 19, for a video update on the campaign and the present and future of the Precinct Leaders program. The video begins at 9:00 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast at http://www.justin.tv/ronpaul. No password needed. All Precinct Leaders are encouraged to participate.

Lew and Debbie will be talking about what we've achieved so far and where we're going from here. They'll also be able to answer your questions: send your questions to [email protected]. And don't forget to tune in tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

.

Doesn't look like a giving up e-mail to me, if they are still talking about precinct leader programs...

This should be spread far and wide. I don't know why nobody has organized a Money Bomb for Ron Paul's congressional seat race yet? I think a money bomb is in order, and we better hurry!!!

He already told us that he is going to focus on the congressional race a bit, i don't see any hint about giving up on the presidential run at all.

Other than the fact that he is specifically asking for money for his Congressional seat and not his Presidential race, the entire email refers to the Congressional seat and the very first comment...

That's not very positive encouragement from our fearless leader... :(

Oh come on. He's concentrating on one area now. He is not giving up on the Presidential race. I hate that people think "no news is bad news" when it comes to things like this.

I think his Congressional seat is extremely important to him. He needs to keep it in order to retail credibility as a Presidential candidate! I just donated.

Wait till after the congressional primary. He MUST focus all time on March 4th, after that back to the presidential run.

That didn't sound like he was going to drop his bid.

More importantly, is the email written by Ron? lol.

You guys have misunderstood. I never said "drop his bid", I said it appears as he is giving up. There is a difference.

I think it is an honest plea for help. I have no idea the kind of pressure that is being placed on Dr. Paul, but I do not envy his position. It must be the most difficult position to be in right now politically. He is literally outnumbered. I don't think it is a message that he is giving up. As a matter of fact I think it shows that he is still in the fight.

He's running 2 campaigns at once. Regardless of how people feel about that, I admire his persistence and will support both campaigns. I've already maxed out to the presidential campaign, so I have no problem at all helping him in his congressional run.

He is not giving up either. Read his earlier letters. He said he will refocus back on the presidential campaign after election is over for his district.

He's been ignoring his congressional race for his presidential one and keeping up his day job too. The Congressional race needs attention. He wants to win both of them.

He needs to focus on the Congressional race for the next two weeks. After that he can refocus on the Presidential race. Do you really think he would have called for the march on DC if he intended to give up?

His district election is on March 4, right? He does need to secure that and then refocus on the Pres bid. If he is our Pres, his district can run a special election and we can get in another rp repub instead of having a neocon there. If he doesn't win the Pres, we need him in the house to guide all of the new rp repubs we are going to get elected all over the country. One way or another, the tyranny stops!

Hes not giving up and either should you. He said in the very beginning when the congressional election comes around he would be focusing on winning his seat.

FUCK YEA! We NEED to donate to his Congressional seat....if he loses that well then I dunno what will happen.

... He needs to keep it in order to retail credibility as a Presidential candidate!

EXACTLY right.

Anyone who might be willing to listen to RP for the first time will be bombarded with "He's so crazy he couldn't even stay in Congress"

Very important for the movement that this is not hanging over his head or casting a shadow over everything else he does and says.

I'm pretty strapped for cash, but this line hit home for me:

"I hesitated to ask you, since you have already done so much. But my wife Carol said, "When you need help, you ask your best friends." So I do ask you, to hold out your hand in support.
"

I threw in $25, anyone want to match me or ante up?

If that's the case, I'm not enthusiastic at all.
I do not see any reason to stop being enthusiastic but the opposite is true, you should be more enthusiastic than before. All this and more should be expected from any one who is running for a congressional seat, what do you expect from somebody in his position, to stop fighting?
The loss of the congressional seat can do more damage than good for Ron Paul specially that both fights are occurring in the same state and at the same month, winning the congressional seat might help us at the convention in September. Plus it is going to be a big slap on the faces of those who think that they can do any with their big money.
