Padilla was not handcuffed for "just asking a question". Newsom is simply straight-out lying about that.
If you or I did what Padilla did at a Newsom press conference, you can bet your ass that Newson would have no problem with having done to us what was done to Padilla - indeed, he'd have no problem with much worse being done to us (criminal charges, etc.).
Treason is...
If a state welcomes an immigrant, then that immigrant is not an invader. If federal agents in a state break that state's laws, then the local law enforcement in that state and county have the right and duty to arrest those law breakers, and their being federal agents doesn't shield them from that. And even if those federal agents break those laws while in the course of allegedly enforcing other laws, that still is no excuse.States don't have the right to stop the Federal government from deporting people.
States can't help people invade the country. Thats called treason.
Treason is the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by assisting its enemies, giving them aid and comfort.
People are preventing the federal government from enforcing the law which is against the law so they need to enforce that law too.

We had a heroic county sheriff in my area who had farmers in his county getting harassed by federal agents for selling raw milk, against federal law. The sheriff sent a letter to the federal agency whose agents were doing this and told them that if it happened again, those agents better have a warrant, and if they don't he will arrest them. It didn't happen again, and he didn't get charged with treason. He wasn't a traitor, he was a patriot. It was the federal agents who were traitors. In the Constitution, treason is defined not as levying war against the federal government (singular), but as levying war against the United States (plural).
The federal government derives its power from the states and from the people. Constitutionally the only laws the federal government has any right to pass and enforce are laws that are necessary and proper for its performing of the functions delegated to it by the states and the people in the US Constitution. Regulating immigration is not one of these. Therefore, regulating immigration is reserved for the states and the people. If a foreign national doesn't have permission to be on US soil by the federal government then they don't have permission from the state because the federal government derives its power from the laws.

Why do you hate the constitution?
