NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.

"When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering," Bolden said in the interview.

wait... so we're paying him to be a self esteem counselor for the muslim's achievements?! all the while apologizing for ours and over regulating any future possible achievement...

and sorry, you can't convince me children naturally aren't interested in space and science... "education" in this country effectively removes that curiosity...

UNBELIEVABLE!
Not just a mission, but the "foremost' mission. Cut me a break.
Was this thread moved here? I know it fits the sub-forum, but it really needs wider exposure.

What in the world? Did NASA support invasion of Iraqi muslims that they need to make up for?

Or NASA now sees money going to muslim countries we are "reconstructing" reason for its budget cuts and wants to end to wars spending be being nice to Iraqis?

Budget Cuts Back Much-Promoted NASA Missions

Very weird.

Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera

It's called kissing up to your target audience. Politicians do it all the time. If he was talking to a Korean paper he probably would have said something about Koreans.

But no one would pick that up. Big anti-Muslim sentiment in this country though so they can run with it and a bunch of people get ticked off.

When he says it to the Korean paper it gets ignored.

White House denies NASA remark on Muslim outreach

WASHINGTON – The White House is contradicting the NASA administrator's claim that President Barack Obama assigned him to reach out to Muslims on science matters.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden recently told Al-Jazeera network that one of the charges Obama gave him was "to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering."

Some conservative activists criticized the remarks.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that such activities are not among Bolden's assigned tasks. He said administration officials have spoken with NASA about the matter.

If that's the case then there are probably plenty of examples to note. Do you have any, or was that pure speculation that he would probably pander to whomever his audience is, telling them they are top priorty of our space program?

And then, imperceptably, Oceana ceases to be at war with Eurasia and was suddenly and mysteriously was at war with Eastasia instead. And the newspeak channels all said that Oceana was always at war with Eastasia...

It's speculation based on observation.

Politicians generally cater their message to the audience they are speaking to. It's been going on since time began. Speaking to Al Jazeera he is kissing up to Muslims. When he speaks to other news organizations he will kiss up to their constituents.
