"I vote we just surrender California to this unknown aggressor and call it even."
"It could be a test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine … to demonstrate, mainly to Asia, that we can do that," speculated Ellsworth.

That's VERY disturbing because it implies one of the following:11/09/10 8:50 AM PST WASHINGTON — The Pentagon says it's trying to figure out whether a missile was launched off the coast of southern California and who might have launched it.
That's VERY disturbing because it implies one of the following:
1- The government is outright lying to us
2- Left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing (not a good thing when it comes to nuclear warheads and the vehicles that carry them)
3- It was a government other than the United States that launched it.
I'm not liking this![]()
Mystery missile contrail baffles US army November 10, 2010 - 12:34AM
Does anyone know what the trajectory of the missile was? (which way it went, in other words) I'm assuming it must have followed an arc out westward over the Pacific.
Several years ago, I saw a similar missile test performed in California about an hour after sunset. As the rocket sped up and out over the Pacific, the contrail caught the sun at the higher altitude and it was a spectacular sight.
Scared hell out of everyone.
After a lot of "wasn't us" denials, it turned out to be a test of the so-called "missile shield" anti-ICBM weapons systems. If I remember correctly, some of these tests are performed by private contractors like General Dynamics.
If that's the case here, I wouldn't be surprised if no branch of the military was alerted (although they clearly should have been) or else the "alert" got dropped by someone in the chain of command, so some poor Captain or Major in charge of Public Relations wouldn't have a clue as to what's going on.
In my opinion, the "government" is often not COMPETENT enough to really lie to us effectively and with premeditation.
Or maybe we were just shootin' at alien spaceships. Yeah, that's it!!![]()
That's the most likely scenario in my opinion. But I think the former Ambassador might be on to something - that the timing of this (President's trip to Asia) probably isn't a coincident. If I remember correctly, some of these tests are performed by private contractors like General Dynamics.
