My reasons why Paul is doing so poorly (from an unbiased Canadian)

Paul, at his age, has to be completely ground down staying in all these hotels and standing around giving all these speeches or arguing with all these people non-stop.

Not to mention how he must feel about having to repeat the same crap over and over.

I travel allot, and it is draining. What he is doing at his age is superhuman.

Hey, by the way Dr. Paul laid waste to Laura Ingraham today, I would think he's beginning to get to the "I'm mad as heck, and not going to take it anymore" phase.

He just has to deliver the message/retorts in a voice that is calm yet forceful. Not whiny or too fast - then he's not "presidential." If he had a Huckabee delivery of his points he would keep people listening to the end - but when he starts talking too quickly and his pitch flies up there, people change the channel.

Go get 'em, Dr. Paul!

Exactly. Even on Leno, as soon as the interview was over, he had to get up (before even the commercial break lol) and leave.. To me it seems that Paul is so so clear with his message in his own mind, and he has said it sooo many times, that he forgets that 70% of america has no idea what is on his mind. His answers do not cater to those 70%.

Think to yourself.. what was the FIRST thing that got you interested in Paul? Was it a blimp or a sign with only the words 'Ron Paul' on it? Probably not

Our Canadian friend is right about people not knowing who he is.

I recently went to a function several towns south of me. This is Ron Paul's district.
My husband and I stuck up a conversion with a couple who we had never met before. The conversation veered to politics. I asked them who they were thinking about voting for. Man says he wasn't sure. I asked, what do you think about Ron Paul? He says, who's that? Must be somebody new.

I tell this family that he was their senator for over 10 years and he is running for President of the United States!!!!!

H E L L O

I keep having thoughts that in order to get Paul out there and his message out - it is going to have to be done in a VERY unique way.
Some way that will capture the heart of America. They want it - they just don't know it yet. Most are robots - sad.

You points are good.. max's points, I think, are better.

Watch that video of the Scottish politician... basically says PISS OFF to the ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA PERSONALITY (re: the equivalent to our Hannity or russert, or anyone on fox etc.).

THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE BLOOD OF HUNDRED OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS ON THEIR HANDS... these people ARE DESTROYING THE VALUE OF THE DOLLAR by CONTINUING TO PROP UP THE INDUSTRIAL-COMPLEXES..

Paul needs to get MAD.. he needs to take the money we sent him and POINT OUT THIS SHIT.. Something tells me that if he did this... we'd probably send him some more. Right now, I don't really feel like donating to a horribly run campaign that won't even attack, by name, the people who are destroying this nation.

Yes, yes and yes - OP, Max, wfd40

Going forward, I agree, it's going to take something more than intellect to save the day. We have the votes of the Jeopardy! viewers - we need to get the American Idol viewer votes now.

Dr. Paul needs to start kicking butt and naming names. McCain and Romney were attacking each other all over the place and it looks like those two are walking off with New Hampshire's delegates.

From a standpoint of several months ago, isn't it pretty cool that it's said Ron Paul is "doing so poorly" if he only comes in above ONE mainstream establishment candidate in the first two states?

"Aw... he only beat Rudy Giuliani in Iowa..."
"Aw... he only beat Fred Thompson in NH..."

Same with fundraising... "Aw... we didn't break $20 million for Q4... we only got $19.5..."

Our movement is growing exponentially. We're just about to hit the turning point.

good point. an outsider seeing a bunch of Ron Paul sign's doesn't mean much if they don't know what he stands for. begin integrating other signs like NO AMNESTY (where appropriate)
GUN OWNERS FOR PAUL (where appropriate) and BRING THE TROOPS HOME.

That was an excellent interview. But Paul does not do this when he gets his chances.. Leno, National debates.. this is where he needs to shine and show his views like this.

I agree and could not have put it better, the grassroots needs to actually get Ron Paul stands out.

I recently joined a Pro-life forum, and nobody had a clue about Ron Pauls stance on abortion.

McCain is only one year(+-) younger. He manages to act fired up most of the time. Not that I have any respect for MCain, I'm just saying we can't expect other people to cut Dr. Paul any slack for his age.

Really? To me.. I could be wrong.. McCain is a very dull character that just keeps talking non stop slowly but surely (while being attacked) until the other party shuts up.

Good Points but...

If Ron were to take your advice and get angry the next thing he would be called is an angry racist. We all know racists are angry and I really believe his humble demeanor is what is keeping that BS story from gaining any momentum. Unless of course I am wrong and the MSM says any press is good press but I don't think so.

Am I wrong?

Thanks my fellow RP supporters. I look forward to hearing what you think.

I totally agree that Paul needs more fire in the debates, and interviews. He needs to articulate his message down into bullet points and sound bites that resonate.

He badly needs fresh new blood around him to coach and advise him. The old staff that has been around him for years are holding everything back by not shaking things up.

As far as the mainstream marketing and advertisements the campaign puts out they could do a bit better but what is there is pretty stand fare for all campaigns. You can only say so much on billboards, flyers, and 30 second TV ads.

Hallo
Heres why I think Paul is doing poorly.
When I see him on the media, Paul no longer has the anger and the rage behind him fueling his cause. He really, to me, looks tired - and Im sure he is. Back on the Morton Downey show 20 years ago, Paul kicked everyones ass. His answers were extremely well worded, they were powerful, they were with force, and they got the message across. Case in point http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88REf0tjZHo . That is an absolutely AMAZING reply, you dont see those anymore. You see a tired old gentleman. If Paul was on those debates, showing emotion, showing rage at the hopeless state this country is in and how badly it needs to change, something will happen. If you calmly and quietly describe your views, no one listens or cares - they think the issue couldnt be that important. I want to see Paul ANGRILY basically tell everyone to WAKE THE FUCK UP (through his message, not verbatim lol). Bring up how the troops have supported Paul more than any other candidate, bring up the value of the dollar overseas, the price of oil before and after the Iraq war, etc etc etc.

His responses do not say what they need to. He HAS to let the people know each and every opportunity he has, EXACTLY what he stands for. For example.. on Leno yesterday when asked about Fox, he says "maybe they didnt want to hear the message".. but he doesnt say what that message is. He hints at it here and there through the interview but he does not mention clearly that 1) He wants to bring home the troops IMMEDIATELY, 2) He wants to abolish the income tax, etc.

On the debate I remember Paul was asked what to do about immigrants, and Paul talks about 'opening the door for the national id card, and we should be careful about that'. But he doesnt not state WHY we need to be careful about that.

Ron Paul supporters have a similar problem. Case in point, this billboard ad. It sucks.
RonPaulCampaign-ManchesterBoarDistance.jpg

"End the war in Iraq" -> should read "Bring our troops home now". Every candidate wants to end the war in iraq, the difference is how long and how much money they want to put into it first.
"Strengthen the Economy" -> again, no substance. What candidate doesnt want to do that. How about mentioning something about how much americans spend on food or healthcare vs the war overseas, and talking about using that money at HOME instead.
"Secure our borders" -> again, no substance. How does it distinguish Paul from others? It doesnt. Just imagine if that ad did not read "Ron Paul" but "Joe Republican" instead (which is actually what people see when they see that billboard). Would you take the message seriously? Would you go home and go to joerepublican2008.com? Hell no. Same with the Ron Paul blimp.

Paul is an amazing candidate. The problem is people are not being told WHY he is an amazing candidate. Yesterday I logged into myspace to find people from New Hampshire to ask them why they arent out voting for Paul. They did not know who he was, or why they should vote for him.

Again, the problem is his message is not going out. 70% of Americans are against the war, there are 5 candidates other than Paul that basically agree on everything and are pro war. Voters should be spreading their vote across these 5, making everyones %s lower and giving Paul a landslide victory (ie, imagine Obamas numbers if Edwards didnt exist) - but this is not whats happening. Case in point: no one knows Paul/Pauls message.

My 2 cents. For the love of god, dont just hold up signs saying 'Ron Paul' on the news or on the streets.. hold up signs saying 'bring the troops home' for example.

I seriously doubt this. Ive been following Paul for months and Ive only (very recently) heard the bullshit about racism. I think most people have no idea about this

I saw a Ron Paul billboard in Nashville that said "End the IRS"

See? There you go.

myst,
Thanks for the great insights. I think it's time for Dr. Paul to take off the gloves.
