My close friend told me in person today that her brother called her last night telling her that he is deploying to Libya. She's freaking out because he told her that he might not return. He's in the air force, so I told her that he'll probably be fine because he'll most likely be stationed in Italy where our air forces are stationed there.

No, it turns out that he is being DEPLOYED IN LIBYA AS A GROUND FORCE.

Is he in a search and rescue or AF special operations unit?

There is a lady I work with that has broken down in tears twice already today. The last couple weeks she has been beaming with pride that her son was accepted into westpoint, now she knows that her son will most likely be going right into the sandbox after basic.

It's my understanding that being accepted into a military academy means that you undergo four years of education and then graduate as a 2nd Lt prior to seeing battle. I was appointed to the AFA (turned it down) and that was my knowledge of things at the time. Granted, that was a decade ago and we weren't strung out all over the world as we are today.

In talking to her about it, she told me that after basic he would normally go to school for the 4 yrs, graduate as an officer and spend 5 years in. I believe she said 5 yrs, I could be mistaken on that though. However, if there were a case where a conflict was going on and they needed troops, the guys would ship out as necessary.

With 2 wars already ongoing and troops spread thin as it is, its not unthinkable that he may have to ship out if this thing escalates. This was her understanding, but she may be just a concerned mother too.

About the Air Force being deployed on the ground, you DO know that the vast majority of the Air Force are not pilots? The majority of MOSes involve tech and logistical work. I believe he's a refuel-er, but I'm not sure.

I don't see how legally someone can be forced to go into Libya, since the President is in direct violation of the Constitution.

Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution says "Congress shall have power to ... declare War".

Only Congress has the power to declare war and our President didn't seek approval/authorization from Congress.

Our soldiers take an oath that they will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. If they refused to deploy, I think the argument could clearly be made they're upholding the oath they took to defend the Constitution.

The rules are clear: An immigrant from Kenya has no constitutional authority to be giving your friend's brother any orders to deploy to Libya. Only a natural born citizen president can do so and only with the approval of Congress...so go tell your friend's brother to do the right thing and defend Article 2 Section 1 as he promised when he took the oath instead of being bossed around by a Kenyan immigrant who has no approval from Congress for a war in Libya.
The illegal orders of a Kenyan immigrant are not worth the risk of going there, not worth the risk of leaving his family behind or cause them grief if something happens.
