A few weeks ago, when silver (and gold) dropped in price quite a bit and a lot of places didn't have silver in stock, that was the time I was looking to make a purchase.
I called around the local places I always have bought from and they were wanting $24+ for 2008 silver eagles and were close to spot for 90% coins. These dealers wanted a price based on what they paid for the silver eagles's, which I understand. On the other hand, I wasn't gonna pay $6 over spot for a silver eagle's
APMEX's web site and business practices got back to normal after their issues (that a lot of places had as well), and I placed an order by calling in. I asked the representative a specific question about one of the products I ordered and he answered to my liking... I placed the order.
I received my order the other day and the one item I asked the specific question about was not based on the answer that was given to me.
OK... no problem, I'll give APMEX a call and we can work this out, is what I had thought.
I called APMEX and the person who handles this part of their business wasn't available so she was given a message to e-mail me a response. I got the e-mail from her and it stated they won't exchange the item, but would give me a refund. I would also have to pay the shipping back to them.
What a load of crap... spot is more now than when I placed my order as well as I would need to pay shipping back to them.
What a load of crap. For APMEX's reputation and the fact that I asked about this specifically, I am quite disappointed with APMEX.
I guess APMEX's bogusness is good for my local dealers though.
I know MANY people have had good experiences with APMEX. Possibly it's like many other places.... when things go as they should, it's great, but if something isn't quite right... too bad for the customer.
