My fight against my town for Ron Paul 2012 lawn signs

Reason picked this up, I posted it in another thread. I didn't know it was you, either!

I saw that earlier over there!

I think the man should be proactive here, and sue the town NOW for violating his civil rights.

I like it!

Murray Sabrin|7.28.11 @ 8:10PM|#

I found an article about winning the lawsuit against Leonia (Sabrin for Governor vs. Leonia), which had an ordinance against political lawn signs. It appeared in The Record, Sabrin wins right to post sign on lawn, October 28, 1997.

This could be Ground Zero. I'm glad you brought this to the light of day! I've sent your mayor's email around too. Keep fighting the good fight. RP2K12!

Wait that was your I read about on Reason?! Keep fighting the good fight. +Rep

I went through this EXACT same issue in MN.
Read this thread: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showth...-display-campaign-sign-Take-THAT-you-FASCISTS!!

The reality is they CAN'T tell you it's illegal to have a political sign up within a certain date range of elections.
Put simply, a Real Estate company doesn't have a limitation on when they can put up a 'for sale' sign, right? So what makes them think they can tell you that you're not allowed a political sign?

It's called "Content Neutrality' and it means they are violating your 1st amendment rights. It's a slam dunk case. I actually got my city to CHANGE THE LAW.

PM me for more info if you need it. I'm trying to dig up more of the old info I had.

We have the potential to make some big headlines with this story... I'm hoping it'll get picked up.. keep submitting to Drudge!

As for everyone else - put up those yard signs!

Great job!

Having been on our city council a few years ago, I saw how the ordinance process works. In our state we have a League of Municipalities which makes sample ordinances available. Cities will often base their ordinance on them, perhaps with a few minor modifications to address whatever local issue prompted the need for the ordinance.

Sign, traffic, nuisance and other ordinances are commonly fashioned and passed this way. Hence, I'm betting most cities have a sign ordinance very similar to the one's mentioned in this topic.

Drudged and + Repped.

Matt, other than spreading the word about this, is there anything we can do to help you?

Thanks! Right now, all we can do is spread is so people are aware of the situation. I will update everyone when information is available.

But thank you again to everyone for all the kind words. You guys are awesome! I love my RPF family!

We need to take on more good fights like this locally. While you're at it, see if you can find other unconstitutional ordinances to nail them on :D

Update:

-Over 1600 people have shared the story from the 2 articles.
-We have another press release coming on Monday morning
-I have a conference call with the NJ ACLU Monday as well
-Other articles are being worked on

I can't thank everyone enough for all their kinds words on here, Facebook, Twitter, and more.

If you lived near a park and animals were constantly defecating on your lawn as they passed by, would you be able to put up a sign to let animal owners know NOT to ruin your lawn? Bet they wouldn't be making a fuss about that.

What's great about this is the free media we can get in New Jersey, and in the tri-state area too on an issue fundamental to our campaign.
