Wasn't quite sure where to put this, so I thought I'd put it here.
So we moved back to West Virginia back in June of last year, and we applied for Medicaid for our little one (he was 2 months old at the time). Somehow, I qualified and received Medicaid even though I didn't apply for it. I called the welfare office back (or whatever politically correct name they have now), and told them that I didn't need Medicaid so I'm fine if they want to take me off of it. They said not to worry about it, and it's better to have Medicaid than not to have any insurance at all. I told them that I wasn't currently working, so I'm not even paying into the system. They said it didn't matter, and just to keep it.
So I did. I used it once when I contracted a bad case of tonsillitis, and it was nice to have. I figured I had been paying into it for a few years so that was my reimbursement.
Anywho, this month they sent me a letter telling me that I no longer qualify for Medicaid. I found it odd, considering nothing in our circumstances had changed, but I didn't particularly mind. Like I said, I only used it once in seven months or so.
But I called them just to ask about it. They said that I, and many others, were dropped because of proposed changes to the welfare system. I asked them what kind of changes had taken place, and all the lady said was that she wasn't sure, and that that was all that they were told.
I thought this was kind of interesting considering there is only one person that's really talking about any kind of welfare reform.
