Avaroth,
Sorry about your headache, but I rather enjoyed your rant. I just left townhall.com after going back and forth most of the day, with a few similar people. Sometimes you just want to pull your hair out.

I was surprised to find some people were tolerant and open to my opinion. I feel like I had a good discussion that shows their attitude towards us. I think I might have dispelled some of their misconceptions even.

I was ultimately banned by the moderator for being a libertarian, even though Ronald Reagan said libertarianism was the heart of conservatism.

I also mentioned Ron Paul and found 1 fellow Ron Paul supporter there.

No, another mod. Haha, but that guy eventually apologized to me after I showed him an interview with Ronald Reagan.

What happened was:

He said that libertarianism was BS and that they get gullible people. So I showed him the Reagan interview and said Reagan must have been gullible because he believed their BS.

No point in trying at all. Those guys will talk about "christianity" all friggan day, they'll talk about being pro-life, then they'll tell us we have to slaughter millions of Iranians with a pre-emptive nuclear strike all because Isreal wants us to do thier dirty work for them. And then they'll tell a veteran of the US army (me) that being anti-war is not supporting the troops. The majority of those pieces of shit never served in the military. They say stupid shit like, "We have to stay the course". We? WE!? Ya know what? If they are so ****ing patriotic maybe they should get off thier freedom loving lazy fat asses and go enlist. I'm tired of these stupid ass chickenhawks thinking that they can get away with preaching the doctrine of "love thy neighbor", and then spew hatred with the other side of thier forked tounge.

YA! They hate us becuase we're free! We're so free that we can have warrentless searches on our own property now thanks to assholes like that. Maybe they hate us becuase we Droppped 1650 bombs on a nation that was already under sanctions that literally starved 600,000 kids to death. Glad we did that! Starving people with no air force are a huge threat to National Security! Hypocriots.

Were's my tylenol, my haed hurts.

It's bull. Retro was actually starting to convince a few of them when Mr. Camoflauge Sig pops in, calls him a "radical anarchist isolationist," and locks the thread.

Besides the few people who showed some sense, the stupidity in that thread was amazing. One guy even claimed that neocons were the "real" libertarians. Just insane.

Great thing to read. After Retro answered the list of questions I kept visualizing all of them sitting in front of their computers looking as dazed as a deer in headlights.

No, that's how they always look.

Friedman,Hayek,Rand...Not Coulter,Hannity,O'Reilly

I was on Right Wing News and in expressing support for Paul, one of them said they hoped the government chased us down because we were drug dealers. Now, to be fair, not all of them think like that; it's usually more along the lines of it's not 1789 anymore, which i find amusing, because one of their pet issues always seems to be appointing "strict constructionist" judges. Still even on forums like Right Wing News, Townhall, or Free Republic, you will still find around a 20% contingent that's sympathetic to Paul's views (then again, that's around the same percentage you will also find on DailyKos).

Now I became a conservative from reading the books and papers by Milton Friedman, Hayek, and Ayn Rand, not by reading the tripe of Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly. The modern conservative movement was born out of the revitalization of classical liberal thought in the wake of the New Deal state. It is essentially libertarian(Friedman and Hayek called themselves libertarians, not conservatives). Barry Goldwater brought political voice to this movement(Friedman, for example, was a campaign consultant), although he did mix it with a strong anti-communism.

Perhaps part of the problem with the conservative movement is that they were in a minority for so long, they developed a mentality of liberal persecution. It then became a cottage industry, even after they became the majority. And somewhere along the line, the libertarian ideal of freedom from coercion became replaced with using the federal government to enforce their version of morality. In other words, lthe libertarian ideal was supplanted with social conservatism and the concept of the "Wedge Issue" was born.

To me, the modern GOP became so dependent on the concept of "Wedge Issue" as a means to get elected, it's almost like a drug. They simply can't imagine political life without their "Wedge Issues." And they continue to move more and more authoritarian in order to preserve "Wedge Issues." The problem with the GOP, however, is that the wedge is no longer being driven into independents, it's now driving a divide within the GOP.

Someone like myself, who used to be staunch republican, has now essentially quit the GOP and have actually become a member of the Libertarian Party. Other than Ron Paul, I doubt I will be voting for any republican any time soon.

I really couldn't have said it better myself.

Well said

LOL LOL!

Well said my man!

You were well into 'vent spleen' mode there!!

I was just looking at the myspace group "ron paul sucks" or whatever. I swear to god this country is doomed. Those people are so dense over there (I know this isn't quite fair to make such an accusation since I am basically accusing them of the same thing). The comments are basically stupid, feel good, git yer guns, mindless, baseless, unfair, ignorant, pathetic, hopeless, accusatory, misstated, "kill 'em all" mindset, neoconservative, unintelligent, and did I forget to mention STUPID.

I swear to god, if more Americans don't start taking the extra minute to figure shit out (excuse the language, I use it for emphasis) before making stupid accusations and conclusions, then I hope they reap what they sow when this country tanks because of their gross stupidity, laziness, and ignorance.

Well I went back to check and indeed they removed the thread before I could respond to anything. But what I also found while looking is their ridiculous poll asking who won. Instead of mentioning Ron Paul, it replaces his name with "didn't watch the debate".
Then in the next poll, it askes who lost, and conveniently Ron Paul came in secong to "didn't watch".

This is what we're up against and it actually strenthens my resolve.

That was exactly how I felt. There I was quoting Reagan and Goldwater, using historical evidence that could be backed up to no avail. And I was thinking who are they using to back themselves up!? Bush? McCain?

It's one thing when the prostitute joins the church, but its another when the prostitute starts telling the priest what to do.
