My brother called me yesterday...

I was lucky with my brother.

Unfortunately, my brother and I haven't been real close. He kind of runs his own program, and isn't real close with anyone in the family. There are no underlying problems, he is just kind of a loner.

Well, I had a pretty serious scare, and ended up in the hospital, and when I awoke, everyone in my family was around my bed, and I was like WTF, why are you all here, and why am I in the hospital?

Long story short, I got to spend some much needed time alone with my little brother, and I told him about Ron Paul. I didn't think he really heard me, but I was wrong. He looked it up, and he is firmly on board, has become a donor, and is spreading the word. My brother and I now speak regularly on the phone, about, you guessed it, Ron Paul, and this wonderful movement.

I can personally attest to the freedom message bringing people together. Got my mother too, she donated to the tea party. It feels good converting people in your family. Converting neocons is another matter, and those of you that are successful should get some sort of peace prize.

I'm working on a moderate democrat, a hippie democrat, a socialist democrat and an anarchist right now.

Good luck with the socialst. LOL

They seem the hardest to get through to, especially if they are older people who have had that belief for a long time. It can be done though, if you have the right ammunition to back up what you say.

I got my mom into Ron Paul early in the summer and she only donated once, but it was for the 2300 all in one shot. She was a moderate republican that is somewhat liberal on social issues, so it wasnt hard to sell her on RP. The hardest part with her was the whole "yeah, but can he win" argument. I showed her some rally videos and the donations page and thats all it took.

My step-father on the other hand was a little more difficult to convert. He never votes straight party and is sort of a big union guy. He said "Yeah, RP sounds like hes got some good ideas, but the president doesnt make laws, it is the congress that makes the laws" I asked him "Ok, but do you want a president that just goes along with every bullshit law that congress wants to pass without even putting up a veto against it? Ron Paul would veto EVERYTHING that didnt fit into the constitution, so it would be harder for government to get out of control" He said "yeah, thats true. Maybe I'll take a look at him some more." He watched the Glen Beck interview and called me saying that he really likes RP's honesty and will be voting for him in the primaries. Also said he watched the Cramer interview and liked that one too, but that Cramer needs to lay off the coffee a little bit. LOL

Sounds nice, good luck with the rest! :D

Me...I have converted 2 Americans who have different opinions than I do, have 2 Americans who are looking closely at him and who also share different opinions, 1 American convert who actually shared the same belief, but did not know about Dr Paul, and then my lovely American wife, who has similar beliefs, but, wants the state to handle things like abortion banning and gay marriage, etc. However, she is not happy with any of the other candidates and will likely vote RP if she sees no one else.

How about my neighbor 3 doors down who thinks Fred Thompson is "the shit" and believes its "our duty" to protect our allies in Israel in the war on terror? He also thinks its "just great" that we still have troops in North Korea, and thinks we should have stuck it out in Vietnam.

You think I can convert him?

I think my time would be better spent convincing other people. The time I spend on him could probably be used to get 50 other people on board.

You're probably right on the last point. However, you could tell him that the other candidate who believes in federalism along with Thompson and who actually has more than 20 years of consistent voting record that way to show for it is Ron Paul and that Thompson's student coordinator went over to Ron Paul's side (there's a YouTube video about this). I get the feeling Thompson may drop out if he doesn't do well in the first states, so you might as well start working this guy.

Tell him that yes, we give Israel X amount of dollars, but we give the Arabs 3 times that amount. We also prevent Israel from doing things it wants to do for its own national sovereignty, such as talking to Syria, which really keeps them down. You could tell him that Vietnam is better now than it was when we left.

There are other suggestions for converting neocons in that subforum. Focusing on the declining dollar and how we just can't afford what they want is a good way.

I've had no luck with my liberal sister. Sent her a copy of Ron Paul's book and Naomi Wolf's book. Hopefully that opens her mind a little bit. lol

I refuse to use 'boxes' anymore. We are ALL Americans. And, those who aren't, are not, obviously. :)

You should take him for a drive and leave him in a rough neighbourhood... That'll prove the chicken-hawk sissy he is...

People like your brother once again show how important it is for Ron to plan to continue his bid for the Whitehouse nomatter what happens during the primaries.

People JUST DON'T KNOW ABOUT RON. But once the REAL race begins this summer, people will learn and love his positions!
