My brother called me yesterday and, after seeing the article on the WSJ about Ron Paul and reading all of the comments, said to me "Tell me about this Ron Paul guy."

I wasn't expecting this at all... My brother is a self-described bleeding heart liberal Democrat. We talked about Ron Paul and his ideas for a while. He couldn't believe the passion that the people commenting had. I explained to him that the underlying emotions people had were fear and excitement. Fear of losing Liberty and excitement because finally someone has come along who will help.

He told me after reading through the comments he was beginning to like the guy and understand his viewpoints. He said that it would require "looking at things through a different prism", but he said he was willing to do that.

I sent him to ronpaullibrary.org. People, if my brother can be converted, ANYONE can be converted.

Anyways, just wanted to share that. Have a great day everyone!

Wow. Just... wow. Could this be real? Could people actually want to abandon the current system of state run madness? Is there real hope for freedom in our lifetimes? Unreal.

My brother's a tough nut to crack too. He's never been into politics because he views it as largely a waste of time. But, after a long conversation, I had him saying he'd put a bumper sticker on his car and even go as far as changing to R to vote for him. My father still has to change his reg to R but he will, he loves RP. I got 4 votes coming from my family alone and my n laws who I could probably get to vote for RP would make 6.

I've cracked a neo-con and a socialist so far. I felt the greatest feelings of accomplishment upon turning them; it was unreal.

My inlaws have had no interest in Ron Paul since my wife started talking to them about 6 months ago. They only get their news on FOX but slowly they have been getting turned off to the war and Bush's stand on illegal immigration. Last weekend they came for a visit and were surprised when several people came up to me over dinner and said they were Ron Paul supporters and liked my Ron Paul shirt. The next day we went for a 2 hour drive and my wife and I spent the whole time explaining Ron Paul's views on many issues. By the time we got back they asked for bumper stickers for their cars and a yard sign. It's always good to have extra on hand. My wife and I are still in shock! :D

democrats have open minds. Alot of them are democrats because they oppose war, not because they want a monolithic gvt controlling things.

The neolibs and the neocons are actually the small but powerful minority. They had infiltrated both parties.

Ron Paul appeals to the average American, forget these labels.

I can't tell you how encouraging this story is. I've worried that the "HURR WAR HURR ISLAMOFASCISTS" people are beyond help, so to hear a story like this is so encouraging. Maybe we can get some of them.

I encouraged a colleague of mine to actually change his voter registration from democrat to republican. He did it the day before yesterday. And he lives in NyC.

Get those heads on pikes, people! And make sure you get them interested in donating too. The live updates and scrolling names help a lot for that.

I'm working on a moderate democrat, a hippie democrat, a socialist democrat and an anarchist right now.

I'm also of the anarchist/voluntaryist persuasion. Just tell them that there's no way to get from HERE (near tyranny) to THERE (anarcho-capitalist society) without moving the country back to a Constitutional Republic. Once we make it there, THEN and only then will an anarcho-capitalist society become feasible.

Agreed, I'm ancap also. I am supporting Dr. Paul because it will be much less messy to move from Constitutional Republic to a Free Capitalist society than it will be to move from a State-run socialist/corporatist nightmare to a Free Capitalist society. In the former situation, we just have to convince people that violence in any form is bad... in the latter we have to convince people that a free market can work AND we have to fight the state's war machine.

Anarchists who refuse to vote because it supports the system are like martyrs. They could do so much more if they lived (read: vote and participate) than they can if they die (read: protest voting because it they think it makes a difference).

How about my neighbor 3 doors down who thinks Fred Thompson is "the shit" and believes its "our duty" to protect our allies in Israel in the war on terror? He also thinks its "just great" that we still have troops in North Korea, and thinks we should have stuck it out in Vietnam.

You think I can convert him?

I think my time would be better spent convincing other people. The time I spend on him could probably be used to get 50 other people on board.

good job on your bro though!!!! Always good to hear of people that woke themselves up to the truth.

Now make sure they show up at the primary elections.

Just an update... My brother is now going to change his registration to Republican and vote for Ron Paul in the North Carolina Primary IF he does well in the early primaries and Super Tuesday.

I wish I could take credit for this due to the hundreds of emails we've exchanged over this, but in the end, it was Dr. Paul's humbleness that won him over.

I've now converted most of my family/in laws. Time to go after my sister.

Well, Fred Thompson is certainly shit. In this campaign for the hearts and minds of Americans, he's certainly "our doody".

I've converted two family members, both Republicans, two more family members who weren't registered (but are now) and two friends, both very much believers in the nanny state, over the last week.

One of the friends has a house with a chain-link fence that every car exiting the local dog track has to look at (across the street from the exit). She volunteered for the local meetup group to put any signs they want there. I'm trying to get a 4' x 8' put up. :)

I'm moving tomorrow to where there are about a dozen more family members, all registered Republican, and I'll have 4 weeks to polish them off. :) I've also got an email going out to several friends in Michigan, where the primary is open.

Ron Paul:Hope 2.0 was my primary video source, but I'm going to switch over to using Ron Paul: Our Way first, then Hope.

So far, my tally includes a Bible-thumper who cited a Bible passage when I asked why he supported Huckabee, a socialist, a fascist (self-described!), a communitarian, and a midget.
