EDIT: New song in post 24 5/28/14
I've posted here once before with our music, it was just a demo that time though. We were excited to finally get to record in a real studio (after saving up money from gigs), and this is what came out of it. There's two songs in the single: the title track and the b-side. I'd really appreciate it if you would let me know what you think of it, feedback both positive and negative is appreciated. The single is located here: http://dangerousanimals.bandcamp.com

I like 'Audrey Hepburn' a lot. For these times though the mix is mud. Yet, I'm partial to a bit of mud:cool:. The audio afficianados will understand.
(maybe it's just the computer/digital format?)

Like 'Hello' too -especially when the guitar solo kicks up -can never get enough of the weird ''middle eight" stuff.

Makes we want to play. :) Thank you for sharing. Wasn't 'Dangerous Animals' a Stewart Copeland project? ;):D

Rock ain't dead folks.:)

Great work. Call me if you ever move to the east side of the Big Island and need a drummer.:)

The guitar sounds a bit weak in a couple spots on "Audrey Hepburn", like someone was off beat or couldn't keep up with the speed. Then again, with the style of the song, it seems plausible that it's intentional. Either that or my hearing's just horrible at this time of night.

I really like "Hello". Chill, but upbeat. It's a relaxing song once it gets into its groove.

And the instrument audio does sound a bit muffled. Not sure if it's the mix or the equipment, but it's almost like a damper pedal was held down the entire time.

Try slowing the lead guitar down (e.g. pick less notes) coming out of the chorus on Hepburn, and you'll knit the tune together. Sometimes less is more.

Did you cut it on tape? Its got a retro sound with the bass and mids turned up over the hi/treble frequencies. Might try mixing the bass guitar with more treble.

Hello was recorded to a click, Audrey Hepburn was not. Both were digital.

You should ALWAYS record to a click, it makes it much easier to edit, plus it's what people are accostomed to hearing.

I tend to agree with you, but we went to a pretty reputable studio and the owner there said that it would have a more natural feeling if we recorded without a click. He said that's how all the greats did it. I would like to try doing more with a click next time we record though.

I would suggest using social media to grow your market. If you haven't already, check out these sites:

Ummm, yeah, no... this guy must be an idiot.

They didn't record to a click track in years past because they didn't have the technology to do it easily. Now, EVERYONE records to a click track not only because they can, but because it makes it sound better. Not to mention, that's what the audience expects to hear in 2012 because that's what we are accustomed to hearing, music that is on the beat.

I only took one semester of studio recording. Enlighten me-didn't people just record live in the studio before click tracks?

They did, but now EVERYONE records to a click track. All popular music is recorded to a click, so everyone is accostomed to hearing music that is accurate. When an act doesnt record to a click, people tend not to like listening to it

This is a valid explanation for why most "popular music" lacks imagination or diversity. Hurrah for playing music on the beat in 4/4 time!

I don't have the music know-how to give constructive criticism but I liked both the songs. I liked "Hello" more though, it had a nice relaxing feel to it.

No it's not. I listen to a lot of "non-popular" music and they use click tracks while making imaginative and diverse music... even when playing in crazy time signatures and polyrhythms. Unless you are specifically doing a Rubato section, everything needs to sound in-time with each other or it will sound sloppy.

"Hello" was good, nice track. I liked the guitar/bass unison line. "Audry Hepburn" sounded a bit disjointed in the mix, and because of the lack of click track sounds a little too loose. That's probably contributing to the disjointed feel I'm getting. The tuning sounded off on the guitar as well. That might be part of the feel you were going for, but I personally like everything to be in tune. I like what you were trying to do with it. And I like the sound you guys are getting overall. Good job.

You ever thought about putting your song up on tweelx? Good way to get your song out there and make some money
