Musicians for the D.C. March

I am expecting well over a million...

Hmm.. I sure do hope that many people come.

But so far (according to CNN) only 600,000+ people have voted for Ron Paul, but maybe there's a chance that a million people could come- seeing as how pretty much half of the country hasn't voted yet.

But if this thing doesn't happen AFTER school is over I'm afraid that all the people we're expecting to come wont be there. Because there are lots of families that wont be able to attend because of work + the ones that have to take care of their kids in school.

That's why I hope they do this thing during the summer, or at least spring break.

Also..
Excuse me? Willie Nelson? Isn't he supporting Barack Obama?
From what I know, he supports Ron Paul..

I don't know who he supports, but Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad has a history of writing political / anti-war songs back to the vietnam era. At 19:30 into the video on his site he says that there should be no hyphenated Americans, just Americans living free. Earlier he talks of converting Frank Zappa to be pro-2nd amendment. His latest album's featured song is "For the people", and it hits hard at the state of our country. He also sings as well as ever.

Please people, read through this thread because it has been said at least once already that Willie Nelson was a Kucinich supporter. I'm not sure if he would like to come or if the right-left paradigm is enough to keep him away. He has said he thinks Ron Paul is a good guy but seemed quite hesitant to endorse him or anything.

People should really learn to see through the imaginary left-right paradigm, and also us talking crap about the "leftists" does no good. In fact it is one of the reasons that holds us back.

Man I wish we were independent.

My understanding is that Ron Paul is against Group Speak. That is he is against labeling people and discussing them as a group instead of the individuals that we really are. All Republicans don't believe the same thing. All Independents don't believe the same thing. All Democrats, Communists, Federalists, Constitutionalist,.....just don't believe the same things. So the higher idea is to stop thinking in terms of groups. Each of us IS independent.

Freedom is to be shared with everyone and not forced on anyone.

Well yes, of course that would be ideal, but as long as Ron Paul insists on staying in the (corrupt two party system) republican party when all it does is hurt us it is very hard to keep fighting for individualistic values. And the number of people who dismiss us just because we are the republicans is very disheartening. It doesn't seem to matter what we think, it's automatically bad.

Sorry, this is OT.

Keep going.

New Millenium of protest music forefathers - poker face

I think the musicians that deserve to be invited are those that incorporate some truth in their songs. Paris and Michael Franti should be at the top of the list. Rage Against the Machine I think is another group that adds a different perspective to the frustration. So I think the musicians that contributed to our movement should be invited.

Agreed... Poker Face has been doing it longer then most, except for the 60s generation of great protest acts.. Protest Rock is what Poker Face does, eats, shits and sleeps. :-)

Sorry I did not read through all the posts.

I have a contact with Willie Nelson, but I am 99.9% sure he would not be coming. He is pretty happy with where he is at right now from what I understand.
There's more to it then that but that info isn't mine to share.

What about a bigger name band that has not done good for a few years but people still know who they are, like Smash Mouth

And until people wake up and realize that nothing takes precedence over a demand for freedom, we will be stuck right where we are.

Just throwing this one out. Peter, Paul and Mary performed at Kings march and the 70's anti war march both at D.C.- historic events.
Wouldn't it be something.......
Checked first and all are alive and kicking.

Fugazi = inspired choice. Failing a reunions, what about The Evens Ian mackaye's current band, I think.

The Gossip (Beth Ditto)
Ani DiFranco

Oh, and never mind the Sex Pistols, what about Selfish Cunt? I'd pay practically anything to see Ron Paul introduce them (and the subsequent performance).

Well what about...

John Mayer? I saw a youtube of him looking kind of drunk yelling about how great ron paul was. Lets get in touch with that guy! How cool would that be...........

Does anyone know of the progress we're making in actually getting a confirmation from any/all of the bands that we've mentioned?

I wish Clinton Eastwood, Gary Bussi, and Goldie Hawn, would show up.

Anyone know how to get ahold of Neil Young?

I think Neil Young and Willie Nelson would give a name draw to it!

Is there an organizer with creds to get these people?

Way back near the beginning of this thread, someone mentioned Arlo Guthrie. Does anyone know if he's been contacted about appearing at the march? Since someone coined this as a r3VOLtionstock then Arlo definately should be there, considering he appeared at the original Woodstock.

I don't know how many people are aware of this, but Ron Paul's favorite song is "Alice's Restaurant." Also, Arlo Guthrie supports Ron Paul. It would be perfect if he agreed to appear at the march to sing "Alice's Restaurant."
